WoW from WoD onward seem to have much in common with SWtOR.
Companions, mission tables and a highlighting of LGBTQ+ persons. Did WoW hire people from the SWtOR team? Or is this just a general trend? Just out of curiosity.
I would say that Blizzard chases trends now, rather than creates them.
I don’t know if they hired people from swotr, but taking ideas from other MMOs …and Diablo are a given at this point.
The SWTOR on rails world design and “story in the way of game play” kind of creeped in as well. Mostly with legion world design.
Was a huge fan of SWG and went into SWTOR with a bunch of friends. Even pre ordered the collectors edition. Don’t think any of us ever hit max level.
My class had some weird Jedi vampires story and that damn voiced choose your own adventure story telling. If you don’t agree with any of the choices you quickly start to despise your avatar. You can only take so much of your avatar saying stupid things before you go “ya, the hell with this”
Me too, I did SWtOR when it first launched, the terribleness of it drove me to return to WoW during Cata, have been a WoW tourist ever since.
What class were you playing? I played all 8 twice, one for each alignment, and dont remember any jedi vampires.
I mean that’s bioware’s MO with RPGs, and that’s one of the things I find way superior about swtor compared to other mmos.
To each their own though.
I assumed he meant Rakghouls
That’s closer to a zombie plague than vampirism. And that was just the plot for 1 planet.
Like I said though to each their own, personally I find swtor superior to wow in many ways but its endgame is so lackluster and poorly designed I cant play past lvl cap anymore.
Swtor imo has superior
Class design
Story and immersion
Characters that actually matter
Interesting companions that are relevant
PvP is also better, bgs are fun and interesting and deep class design allows for a lot of counter play.
Highly alt friendly, I can farm high ilvl gear on my main and send to my alts
Pretty good character customization and mogs
The only real disadvantage of Swtor is lack of frequent updates like WoW and lack of dps meters(Public ones)
Still consider the game one of the best mmorpgs out there.
I absolutely HATED the storytelling, it just seem lazy to me when they use a single player narrative in a MMORPG…we can’t all be the “Chosen one”, the best, the greatest.
That’s why I like SWG and WoW, we are all part of a larger world.
Have you played the last couple of expansions of wow? We definitely are now called champion savior of everything now all the time and in every quest lol
Yes, it’s why I am just a “Tourist”( late Cata, late Legion, early BfA) it’s hard to take the current narratives seriously, just not that engaging
You just described my exact experience with SWTOR as well. Huge fan of SWG. Was so pumped for SWTOR. Bought CE, didn’t even get a char to max level.
That’s too bad. After a rough start, the game has improved immensely. It’s a vastly different game from launch.
It’s pretty dead nowadays. They post more microtransaction updates than content updates. And we think WoW has long content droughts?
This. They dropped a new xpac the end of last year. I’m having a really good time playing it over BFA right now.
Your mistake was playing The Republic.
Peace is a lie; there is only passion…
Starwars galaxies is by far a superior mmorpg to swtor.
Sad how SWTOR is live yet SWG the better far superior star wars mmorpg is dead and on life support via private servers.
SWG WAS before the NGE BS. But the game that shut down in favor of SWtOR wasn’t SWG anymore it was a PoS that should have been shut down years sooner.
swtor is not a mmorpg neither is WoW. They are MMOs.
Like lunar said SWG pre NGE was a legitimate role playing game.
Apples and oranges bud.
The difference is SWTOR has a far better record of listening to its players than blizzard does.
