Evoker's Range

I’ve been wondering, do people actually like Evoker’s short range? I don’t know anybody that does.

Please let me know if you do or not. I’m curious what people outside my bubble think about it.

Creative Geometry for Prevoker can get annoying. Especially when you’ve got a group of ranged DPS, where the Boomkin and Mage are on opposite sides and the Hunter is 7 states away.

As much as the shorter range can be a problem when running out for certain mechanics, it kind of makes up for it with Hover and Glide. You never know how vaulable casting while moving is until going back to a warlock or shadow priest and just being in pain when put into high-movement scenarios. The spider boss from Vault or Smolderon, for example, involves so much running around that hover spoiled me to where my brain just stopped working on turret-casters.

Compared to the range on this char when I’m in Balance Spec, or on my Frost Mage, or my hunter, I’ll have to give a loud and clear no.

While levelling my evoker plenty of times I’d open an encounter with either Dragon Rage or Eternity Surge, and oh crap just aggroed, well we’re all over the place now. Le-sigh One day I’ll get the correct rotation right… maybe.

I never liked it but I only played Evoker briefly as an alt.

I’m not sure what the tradeoff was. They weren’t more mobile than some classes that have 15-20 yard longer ranges. Hover and similar mechanics are something I always hated as they feel clunky and awkward. Instants during movement feel better than clunky and weird looking cast while moving abilities.

Without a doubt there is no reason to keep us at nerfed range.

The trade off for Evokers range is supposed to be their mobility, but when Hunters exist it doesn’t matter how mobile a range is, it’s not going to justify it having significantly less range than every other class.

Warlocks off Narnia just self healin’ with cookies, rather than wondering if they should take a step or seventy nine closer.

I HATE IT. It’s like playing a ranged class with a handicap. Feels like you’re being punished just for playing the game.

I feel like as DPS it’s whatever. The range is what it is and doesn’t change how you’re going to play.

But dealing with as a Healer is obnoxious and one of the reasons I switched back to my Ele Shaman once I got into mid-range keys.

Way too many instances of the ranged DPS forming an anti-Evoker triangle in which I can only target 1 player + myself at the same time.

And yes, yes, they can use echo and such to help mitigate it, but that’s relatively poor use of a strong class ability being forced to compensate for others not realizing how much they’re screwing over their healer by doing exactly what they normally do that isn’t an issue with other healers.

It’s obnoxious.

This is my thought as well, but I wanted to see if there was some magical benefit to the short range that I just wasn’t seeing. Other than just being “unique” which is the only thing people who “like” the range seem to state as a reason. :man_shrugging:

I paid for 40 yard range, I’m going to use 40 yard range.

On this point specifically, a lot of people I think don’t realize that 10 yards less range on a Healer works out to be roughly ~45% less range total for your ability to heal people spread out.

Like it’s fine to have healers specialize in healing clumped up groups. But at least Shamans still have the capabilities to spot heal ranged off in Africa.

It ends up being REALLY obnoxious having a Prevoker on any fight where you need people to spread out significantly.

I do not mind it and signed up for it, so I have nothing to complain about.

We can also move while casting quite often, so I would say it is a fair trade.

I want the reg range for casters to be given to us. This less then just sucks bad.

As someone who mained Druid up to Legion and Hunter up to DF, who now mains Evoker, I heavily dislike the range Evoker is given. It doesn’t feel great and it is annoying to deal with. I only play Evoker because I can be a Dracthyr. I await Dracthyr getting more classes so I can stop dealing with this range issue.

I love being right there in the “is that a melee mechanic am I gonna die” no man’s land. Its fun. Especially cause scary dragon evokers are about as tanky as level one critters

I find it bothersome. However … I would be ok with it if Evoker had a melee/tank spec that just did lots of claw slashing and spewed molten lava.

Is there a melee class that won’t be more powerful with 40 yard range?

I like the range restriction.

Slooowly looks at Ret Paladin and Unholy DK with a lot of their abilities functioning well beyond melee range.

yea but entire toolkit?
