Yes, and them being dragon themed is completely irrelevant when we’re talking about the bones of how the spec works mechanically. They could slap Aug on another class and I’d play it without looking back because, and I know this is a radical opinion to present before the council, but some people will choose gameplay over aesthetics when forced to make a choice between the two. That doesn’t mean however that given the option to have both, like I would with visage instead of Dracthyr form, I wouldn’t choose both.
As Dev, maybe, but Aug has a laundry list of spells that transform you for no discernable reason. Pres I assume is largely the same.
One: you can’t have non evokers use their racials in visage form and then turn around and say evokers must change because to preserve their dragon identity.
Like that’s a double standard…
How you gonna tell me a drac warrior can unfurl their wings while in visage form but an evoker can’t???
And if they can do that for their racials they should be able to do it for all draconic abilities…
If anything it makes sense for the class that emphasis on draconic combat to be able to master it in visage form and for the non evokers to be forced into dragon form.
Two: this would make it possible for all races to be evokers.
Then what replaces Breath of Eons? Some rando spell that summons a dragon like Death Knight’s Frost Wyrm’s Fury? How about Hover? Do we just turn blue and levitate like a Priest? Congrats, you turned 2 innovative and interesting spells into cookie-cutter copies of existing spells.
Again, the dragon theme isn’t irrelevant when THAT’S THE POINT OF THE CLASS. It’s like arguing that you don’t want to be forced to shapeshift in the Druid class or drop totems in the Shaman class. Since you want to bring up choice, here’s a choice for you; If you don’t want to be a dragon, don’t roll the dragon class.
Simpler still: the visage form is taxing of your draconic abilities just how it’s been described in lore since Knaak, therefore you only get minor spells like living flame in visage.
I like visage existing, I like having the option, I like that being able to interact with mortals incognito is a given part of the fantasy of “playable dragons” we were sold at blizzcon before DF, I can do a lot of open world stuff in visage if I feel like it.
But if the devs decided to be a bit mean and tied the mastery racial to not being in visage I’d say it’s fair.
Also, I would like to create and play a dragon, but I want said dragon race to give me the option to Always be in my visage form while in or out of combat. This way I can bypass playing a dragon race, while being in dragon form.
Imagine your current character (an Orc) with magical dragonwings sticking out their back and them spitting fire from their mouth as they fly around like Tinkerbell from Peter Pan.
If you think that looks cool or interesting, I seriously question your tastes.
Or you can enter combat in your visage form and when you activate an ability like Deep Breath that requires drac form you enter that form and stay that way. When combat ends, you immediately return to visage form.
