Evoker or Druid?

I dont care about feral and bear, I am trying to decide between balance/resto or devastation/preservation.

Which in your opinion is more fun? I see so many druids around that it stops me on playing one a little bit

We have a smoother rotation and dots galore.

Evoker.

Druid has a ton of forms, and abilities that only work in some forms, and abilities that only work sometimes in some forms but not all the time.

It’s a lot. Especially if you’re only interested in 2\4 specs.

Evoker doesn’t have to deal with all that, because their only form deploys automatically and is pretty much cosmetic.

As much as I like Pres, I feel like it takes a special player to really do it well.

I am not that player.

Druid is fairly easy to heal if you set up right. I have some decent macros so where I’m lacking in skill people can’t really tell.

Any reason why preservation is like that?

Tried preservation and I just can’t do it. I don’t understand how people play preservation.

So unfortunately, and because my opinion is biased, I will say Druid.

Basically the shortest-range vs longest-range caster class. It’s nice being able to cast spells from very far away…

But really, I don’t think there is a correct answer here. You need to figure out which class works best for YOU.

as far as i’m concerned, the evoker spec is very powerful.

I feel preservation takes some getting used to but is real fun once you get the hang of it. Something super satisfying about their whole “time” gimmick as well. I love seeing my future self come out of nowhere and help heal folks, or hitting rewind at a crucial moment and just seeing all those health bars pop to full. Then there’s stasis. Yeah preservation is kind of odd at first, but definitely cool too.

There are parts of it that are directional. If you’re facing the wrong way or people aren’t grouped up, you could miss someone. I always feel like I’m scrambling around trying to get people.

Also, I feel like the charge spells are a tad too slow.

It is, but you have to be good at the targeting of some spells.

I have more fun with evokers.

I am just learning Preservation. I find that a lot of spells either have a cooldown or a ramp-up, which means it’s hard to throw out a heal in a pinch. Plus a lack of really powerful emergency healing makes Preservation one of the tougher healing specs.

I’ve healed on Paladin, Druid, and Priest before Evoker. Holy Priest was easiest and extremely powerful. Druid was kind of boring. Paladin used to be really good, but ever since they added Holy Power and that awful Light of Dawn, it’s more difficult. Paladin AoE healing is awful. But that is my personal rant. I’m sure there are people who will disagree.

But like I said, I am still learning. I hear Preservation does really well in Mythic, so what do I know?

and what about balance vs devoker?

Yeah, this is the trouble I have with it as well.

Keep in mind, I’ve played every spec as well. I’m not a great healer on any spec, but I feel like Pres is my weakest one.

These are fairly equal in my mind, just different playstyles of DPS is all.

Balance is fun. But your main spells that you cast most of the time have a cast time, which is frustrating when you just want to pound buttons. But the class does take some planing to make sure you’re using the right spell on the right mob. So it isn’t exactly a faceroll class like Ret Paladin is. On my Druid, I took some less-than-optimal talents simply because I like them. Like Stellar Flare. I love that spell!

Devastation is fun because you’re a dragon burning things. It’s another build-spend class, but the essences recharge really fast, so I never really worry about them. The ramp-ups are a huge slowdown and not worked very well with one tuned to how much damage you want to do up front vs. over time and another turned to how many targets you want to hit. But you get used to that. And hey, you’re a bloody dragon!!!

I’ve been very critical of Devastation but the reality is that you can progress very far with the spec with talent and the right people to push with.

From what I’m seeing on the PTR, Devastation is going to be very strong in raiding and solid in M+.

The numbers from Flameshaper in particular is astounding. If you’d like a an example:

35+ million crits without group buffs with the new tier + trinkets with Engluf. Honestly, I’m not sure if this is the intended direction for the Hero Spec but you can expect to see quite a few of them appear through the cracks with its current iteration.

There’s a guy who’s at the peak of the class/spec on the PTR forums who has actually provided a deep analysis of the spec.

Give it a read. It’s in the devastation Evoker 11.1 feedback thread - Gilvoker is their name.

Druid. Boomchicken.

Balance druid, no question. The moonkin customisation is awesome now as well. And they have some of the best spell animations. And the coolest talent names!

I differ here. I think evoker spells looks more cool than the druid ones.
