i’m not a fan of the whole ‘dead game’ meme. it is literally a coping mechanism. but the ‘few hundred thousand’ statement is a reasonable guess. for the record - i dont want the game to die.
do you really think this game (in the US) has more players than any of the top 10 games on steam right now? not subscriptions, actual consistent players. go look at wowprogress and check out the realm rankings list. go on the waybackmachine and look up the same list a few years ago. if i go back to may 2017, the amount of realms listed that had active raiders on it was at 120. now, the realm list only at 83. look at the realm populations, you can go even further back in the WBM on WP and see what i’m talking about. i’m sure you know that connected realms were already implemented back then. someone can say something about how its only active raiders being counted on there, but its a consistent variable and you can clearly see a downward trend.
this game is on the back 9 unfortunately. its not dead though - games like this don’t just ‘die’. as for longevity, theyre relying on constant rotation of new players, and old players who still play consistently or juice them up when they come back to the game every once in awhile (like me).

I love redoing my UI, I have a different theme and set up for each of my characters. Some even have different themes for each spec. I’m always tweaking things. ElvUi has so many options I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface on what I can do.

When it was mentioned by the devs in a recent interview that 10.0 would see a dwindling of borrowed power systems for more baseline class fantasy I just pictured that one scene from Deadpool: The game where cable tricks Deadpool into coming to the beach and he goes: “Maybe he means it this time?!”… that was the first thought in my head…
Forums are a poor metric to use. At least for myself, I posted a ton during the pandemic last summer being stuck at home and now, I pretty much only post in between flight paths. I imagine a lot of people are similar

Yeah, the forums are an atrocious metric.
Happy customers don’t complain, and considering we see pretty much the same faces around here, I’d imagine people either checked out a while ago or there are a decent few enjoying themselves. I, personally, am not one of them and kinda regret resubbing, but that’s my problem.

…and those are probably Blizzard employees on sock puppet accounts being paid to defend the game or derail conversations.
