In Dark Souls 2 you can join Covenants, rank them up, leave them and then come back with absolutely no punishment while keeping your rank. And in DS3 changing Covenants is as easy as changing your tabard. So, if even some of the most hardcore RPGs allow this, why are the devs so focused in not allowing people to swap Covenants like this?
Don’t you ninja roll yourself to victory in DS?
Game rules peer pressure is always important to everyone. I guess.
Dark Souls is about challenging fight mechanics, not about being a hardcore RPG.
A good number of actual hardcore RPGs limit how much you can change anything about your character.
Dark souls 2 is my favority in the saga. It was the only one that didnt want the follow the same 4 guys from ds 1 and actually expanded the world of dark souls a little bit more.
Why you don’t play theses games then?
I already have more than 200 hours on them. And I want to play WoW. And I don’t see why WoW is doing this.
So like, how many times you people going to change characters and make new threads complaining about a non-issue?
Seriously it’s a non-issue you have to do a quest and your done.
Is that really all that awful? My gosh.
No, you don’t.
You want to play a version of WoW twisted to your whim.
Really? Because it has been explained ad nauseum and google is happy to show you the way.
yeah, but dark souls 2 is worst souls-like game on the market. Even garbage like Lords of the Fallen is better than ds2
Pick your battles. What’s the point of limiting covenant abilities when you allow 3 different specialisations.
Perhaps it’s not a if, but rather because. Perhaps they regret that choice but know they can’t put the genie back in. So they are trying to introduce a new system type. My guess if people don’t cause too much grief over this they will reiterate it into something cooler down the road. This could be the bones of a sub-class system.
I’m still finding it hard to believe people are still losing their minds over one ability and one travel assist power. It’s not like corruptions people. This one ability isn’t going to make or break your spec’s viability.
Get a flipping grip already.
Checks out…sadly.
You can change covenants in Shadowlands.
Let me say it again for the people in the back.
YOU CAN CHANGE COVENANTS IN SHADOWLANDS!!
Understood? Good.
But
Mommmmmm
I have to get the best one or I won’t be coooool.
Like Dexter said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ion wants to go back to limiting being able to respec but they saw with flying that it’s a hell of a lot harder to close that door once opened rather than simply start with it locked away.
As it turns out. It’s actually easier to balance things if there’s less knobs you have to tune in order to get just the right recipe.
Yeeeeesssss no yes no no no yes no PEPPERS!
Not being part of the beta yet and not really watching much of whats going on to avoid spoilers. I think it’s also possible to just be a story mechanism as well. Not really allowing changes at the start due to them being a bit at odds with eachother and the covenant system (in the story) not really working the way it should. Eventually later in the story when they all are working together there may be a system which allows you more easily to swap because everyone is buddies now. Although My money is still on the first thing I said…
From a story perspective from what I’ve been able to tell, it makes sense changing covenants shouldn’t be easy. The Covenants each have their own methods and ethos and they really don’t see eye to eye on…almost everything.
