1 word can have more than 10 different meanings in some languages and technology can’t guess it yet.
Google translate is the worst example one could give, have you already seen a video where people translated lyrics of a song to another language and then back to english?

Do you mean from english to french then back to english? Was it a rap song or a song using heavy slang / ebonics? If that’s the case you are presenting an specific exception to a generalization. Specific -> General.
There’s plenty of examples in lots of languages and styles it’s far from the exception
And your main argumentation is based around twitch which has a vastly different infrastructure than WoW
Edit: unless I misunderstood you and you want people to have a google translate page open at all time just to be able to communicate (because add-ons can’t throw html requests)

Your turn to provide a translation (example of which you claim are plentiful) without ebonics or slang that doesn’t get the gist across using the google translator.

Well, you know what they compare opinions too . . .
Google Translator is inefficient. I would prefer the DeepL Translator as it is already tested by famous newspapers and works pretty well (e.g. translation of articles of the Washington Post).
And as I read DeepL also has an API to be integrated into systems.
But ok…DeepL only works with 9 languages (english, german, french, russian, polish, italian, spanish, portugese and dutch) while google translator has a lot more to offer…
Blizzard is stress testing the EU forums since they complained the last stress test was NA only.

Why do you expect a tool to understand that? If he couldn’t figure it out from the start, your explaination isn’t going to help him any either.

Since he’s most probably trolling, I don’t expect him to understand, no.
I just felt compelled to provide a short answer that doesn’t need advanced language skills to understand it.
After all English is a foreign language for me. There always could be a hidden meaning I don’t know or understand.

you’re missing a big point tho.
woW is filled with slang and jargon (and mispelled words) a translator would have major issues recognizing.
you also have the problem of recognizing language recognition with all the WoW terms mixed in.
the real question is why europeans can’t speak decent english… and this is coming from a french canadian. English is the most spoken 2nd language in the world, how do you function without it?

No, English is not enforced on ESO EU servers.
They just all coexist. But it’s been like that from the beginning.
You folks in wow though have been used to language specific servers for 15 years so this will be a big jolt for you.

Personally I don’t think I’ll be affected much, but I think I can see s**tstorms brewing for many realms where Germans will inevitably be in the majority and crudely start speaking German and basically forcing everyone else to reroll on a different server, months in.
Pretty disgusting situation but yeah, some people really lack the courtesy and respect to speak in a language that everyone can understand.
I’m not sure why it’s different for ESO. Then again, this is all just speculation as to what will happen.
Most Europeans can speak English perfectly fine.
But particularly the French and Germans are rather stubborn and expect everything to be translated for them.
The meltdown over there is making me chuckle.
It’s a niche side project, not a full blown big game release. Of course it’s going to be small to start and see how it goes from there, just like anywhere else. It makes sense they won’t do that.

I believe we all want classic to be a success and in europe I think that success will in some parts depend upon having the language specific server options, that people are used to.
The argument “Learn english or gtfo” is not helpful. Neither to the european players who would like to be able to see what language a server will probably end up with before rolling a character on it, nor to the classic community as a whole.
But as always, that’s only my opinion. (And that of 99% of the german players that answered in the announcment thread, so many that by now the character counter for the thread is broken 
)

It’s actually pretty spot on.
Most private servers are multi-language on one server, and since people claim that private servers are what got Classic, why be so upset that they get what private servers give.

Regardless of your specific instance, which might occur rarely, the solution is viable, and much more so than the current state. If you have a better and simpler solution present it. Forcing another language on others definitely isn’t the simpler solution.

Well it’s a strange world we live in.
Some people find it strange that people want to be able to play in their own language, because when they come home from work and want to play a game to relax they don’t want to have to translate everything.
And others find it strange how there are people that vehemently argue against things that won’t impare them in the slightest. It makes it seem that some people just don’t like it when others are happy.
