That is the question. How long should content last. Too long and its stale. Too short and there isn’t enough time to grind it and enjoy it. ICC/ SoO last a year and thats too long. New tiers last 4.5-6 months and thats too fast.
I think 2 years is a pretty standard number that they have used for a while.
I don’t think Legion, BFA, or SL will be a waste of time. I didn’t think grinding anathema was a waste of time. I enjoyed them while I had them.

BOEs should never be better than Mythic raid gear. Simple. Your little sister shouldnt be able to come into WoW and buy 5 BiS pieces for her character and suddenly be 440ilv with 5 475 pieces equipped (with best corruption) without having done anything. She has no clue how to even move her character and her camera at the same time.
And you’re gonna sit here and tell us that someone whos grinded r3 essences on their main cant get BOA essences. Get out of here.

You’re comparing 2 trinkets, which in this current day and age get replaced instantly by low mythic + and low raid trinkets, to literally BEST IN SLOT corrupted pieces that will stay with you for the whole expansion. You’re insane.
No, your right. you dont have to have your alt optimal since you pay the sub. Just dont go into a group with un optimal performance. With less then sufficient applicable essences your alt is holding those people back.
Thats the issue with this whole system. People who want to play there alts to keep the game fresh without holding the group back. Those people have to back slog through hours of old content.
The trinket was bis from the day wrath launched, until ICC. Some classes continued to use it in ICC. Naxx25, Uld25, ToC25, ICC25. 4 tiers, one trinket still bis or close too.
These corrupted pieces are BiS for one tier, the nyalotha raid.
