I really dont need to explain how insane it is to start a alt in 8.3
you can be fully geared and still need to back track to old 8.2 content just to regrind the same thing over and over again.
There is no greater disapointment then stepping back in nazjatar for the third time or mechagon for the fourth time.
If you want to keep players up until shadowlands make this one simple transition.

lucid dream is the main issue.
you kinda do need rank three.
maybe not for all. ill give you that but for a few examples. life force, memebeam, blood of enemy, lucid dream, world vien, Orbital strike from mecha, VoP, and conflict and strife ( considering which class though )

The entire system is bad because an alt has to do a couple weeks of dailies for one BIS essence? When there are half a dozen other options to use while farming for it?

Nah not really.
Difference to rank 3 is like 500 dps.
Since you’re not in LIMIT, I can safely assume that you fat finger more DPS out of your rotation than that.

This. All day, everyday. A weapon or trinket combo is worse more than this. Correct mechanics worth 10x that.

I don’t mind rep essences really. Raid essence on the other hand… I hate those. You can’t do them solo. Vision of Perfection I hate that one too, but at least with m+ opened to Op : Mech, you can get them while getting stuff from m+ itself. Nobody wants to rerun EP 3-4 weeks just for an alt essence

Blizzard is never gonna do anything like this as much as I wish they would. I want to skip story quests, rep my legendary cloak cause I have already done it on my main but nope.

I flat out don’t understand the argument against it
Lets say Azshara raid is your best one, guess you gotta do that raid for a few months on an alt to get your best essence, that is a very easy grind
Or perhaps the mythic dungeon one, or pvp one, several weeks minimum to get your rank 3
They always just go to the few fast essence and are like, YEP DATS BALANCED I LIKE TA DO DA GRIND ON MAH ULTS CUZ IM GOOD PLAYERS

I’m working on my new alt in 8.3. I already have this and my DH on track to being 1/2 way to exalted.
My new alt is a Mechagnome monk called Ishs. I initially deleted it after getting heritage but will restore it and get essences for it to see if it’s feasible. I’ll let you know how I go.
keep me posted. id like another person perspective starting from scratch.

I’ve never seen players so against alts in my life. LOL. Why do people care so much if someone has multiple strong characters? How in the world does that affect you in any way? Unlocking essences is just another filler to keep us playing everyday… It is not content. Its dull after doing it once, and i dont get why people hate so much on people who want to have multiple geared toons. Its not your account, dont worry about it. If my alt is out performing u because i have r3 essences, you should be worrying about yourself and what your doing wrong and not me.

Me, me. I have a monk and I only strictly do the essences I need to heal and I won’t do anymore.

I play alts less because I’m tired of farming essences, and I’m tired of blizzard’s damn interface not shutting up about not having an essence slotted that I don’t have.
Yes, I can download an add-on to shut that up, but seriously. I farmed them once.
Let me buy them off a vendor like the damn 7th legion flight token for alts.

You listed multiple essences, wv, iris, that gain less than 500 dps from r2 to r3 for most specs.
Others gain less than 1500. Most specs sim for 50-70k depending on ilvl at this point. With some players simming upwards of 100k.
Do that math, 2k dps in a 60k sim is not game changing. Like its been said before in this thread, rotational mistakes, positioning mistakes, wrong cd usage, incorrect gearing issues, wrong essence selection and wrong talent setups all have much greater impact on dps.
Deal, but only if i’m allowed to boost whatever alts i want for free. And not have to grind gear on them since my main is already mythic geared. I’ll farm mech/ nazj all day, but I do not want to level.

Vision of Perfection is fairly quick if you just run m+ workshop back to back.
Conflict and Strife though… That’s a nice wait til rank 3.
Null Barrier is also a huge boost at rank 3. It’s one of my top damaging abilities.
