I would like to have a constructive image of how MoP is doing.
how is the playerbase? who is all playing

I log in every now and then and run a leveling dungeon, maybe once or twice on a weekend once a month-ish or so…

MoP was a mistake. Honestly Cata was, too.
Should’ve turned the 2019 wotlk classic servers into wotlk era and started us all over again with anniversary. Which will stop at wotlk again, let you transfer to the wotlk era servers, and then repeat.
year-ish cycle per expansion.
It turns out people dont really care about pvp in mmorpg. You either do easy raids on classic or you go play retail now. At least there is solo progression on retail wow since TWW
If the gear you could get from the Barrens/Escalation event was somewhere between Celestial and up to Normal ToT ilvl i think it would be a good filler. I mean the story is good for those that have never done it so that’s ok, but that the gear is lackluster to work for right now.
I would call it just a raid log game. Which I am personally fine with. I think by now most people realize this run of progression classic is about to get SOD’ed into the void and have accepted that fact. Blizzard just won’t tell us because how SOD went when they did and they still see a few whales here to milk. Sure, some ultra copers are out there that have reached unhealthy obsessions with their collections and meaningless pools of power they have generated around themselves in this progression run and they will go down with the ship all hands on deck.. but.. the majority still playing are just riding out to the end raiding (the life boats) and when the ship goes down will just be floating along to whatever is next if not already there.
Really they should have just done a cycling server like you suggested while maintaining TBC and WOTLK era servers.
I like MOP, but if they announced a seasonal server at the end of WOTLK starting over in Vanilla in place of Cata, I’d probably have been happy.
I miss Cata. I had always had good memories from the first time, but it was even better than I had remembered it.

Still around. Not the best outlook though.
Currently, according to IFpro, there are only ~50,000 uniquely logged characters in PvE content.
Throne of Thunder was released in early December. And we still got another 4 months or so? It’s brutal how dragged out the content is. MoP is definitely bleeding players now due to poor content cadence timeline. My entire guild is literally 1-2 bis items away and we are slowly losing players and pugging is PITA.
A lot of guilds have stopped / are stopping raiding now. They’ve cleared it. All bis. Got their parses. Go chill elsewhere and come back to SoO.
But MoP definitely got a lot of cosmetics to grind out. And honestly, you should totally go after Challenge set, as in the next 6-7 years, who knows, they might merge Classic into Retail ![]()
Some say SoO will revive MoP a little, but such upticks tend to be temporary increases, rather than actually dragging players back into the game.
I, generally, don’t mind it. I raid with my boys and I have fun. I also got 1 toon in TBCC that is practically P1 bis already, so I raid log in both versions of the game. And I’ve picked D2R ROTW again - hunting down holy grail for the chronicle rewards.
MoP content itself is not bad. Plenty of stuff to do….Most players have just finished it all already.
Yes two good games rn with TBC and MOP. the players are spilt up but playing both.
Good to hear. MOP is doing pretty good overall. ty for info
Here is my super casual point of view of the game right now.
I like MoP one of my favorite expansion along with probably Legion or Cata, but it has issues two of them that are major to me, 1: Valor gear is lock behind very annoying rep grind and 2: the content is being release way too slowly, that’s it.
Everything else is pretty good overall dungeon (Celestial) queue quickly, they are easy enough that there is no sweat no real Gatekeeping people who kick low gear people at all its pretty chill experience which is what I like, a paradise compare to what was WOTLK Alpha, Beta and etc leveling is still relatively alive, there is people leveling in zones perhaps not 500 per zones but something like 10-30 people which is pretty decent, gameplay is good, I like MoP class overall and the End game will only get better with Timeless Isle, I would do Escalation but none of my character need that gear so no point in even doing them at all really.
I would say if you intend to come back and play MoP don’t do it yet, come back in 2-3 months maybe right after SoO/Timeless Isle release date is confirmed and start leveling/gearing up.
