I was discussing with some guild members regarding prospecting and epic gems coming next patch, and someone had mentioned that ONLY Titanium Ore obtained when the new patch is released will contain epic gems, and any existing stacks of ore that are mined prior to the new patch and then prospected will not contain epic gems.
Is anyone able to confirm or deny (with links to either blue posts or elsewhere) if this is true or not?
That seems wrong as there is no indicator on the ore of when it was mined. If someone was buying ore off the AH to prospect how would they know if it was “new” ore or not?
I don’t really see how this could be the case. Stackable items don’t have any identifiers that let them differentiate between when they were mined.
That’s the reason things like Val’anyr shards aren’t tradable in raids like the rest of the items. They lose their individual identity within the stack.
Even if blizz tried to do this, how would it even handle a prospect of 4 old and 1 new titanium ore, or vice versa?
Gonna say that existing stacks will prospect epic gems out of them.
Now, the caveat to this are things like boxes/bags that can be opened with gems inside. Those items determine their contents on spawn, not on open, so any containers that could have epic gems within them need to be new. (For example, you couldn’t have stocked up 100 fishing treasures bags before phase 2 to try to get stormjewels in them early)
They did something similar to this in cata. They absolutely can do it.
Ok. After looking into it they did not change in cata. They knew a lot of players were stacking pyrite ore to be able to prospect epic gems so they just made it so pyrite or did not give epic gems. A lot of ppl got burned. They also did something with the next tier craftallble gear to mess with ppl that saved up bars.
Yeah, the game has no way to tell when ore was mined, and prospecting results are determined on cast, not on ore generation (which should be obvious because you need to destroy several)
fishing bags are different than ore though. fishing bags are a container and thus their contents are rolled when it is made, not when it is opened. and as it has been said before, there would have to be a way for the ore to be marked as “new” or “old” because otherwise you would have people scamming others by putting up the current “old” ore on the AH and people would buy it up wanting to prospect it only to find out it can’t be done.
Not that Blizz will do this, but the way to do this would be making a Titanium Ore with a new item ID that would drop in place of the current ore (id 36910). The current ore would then no longer be acquirable from mining, and it wouldn’t stack with the new ore since the item IDs would be different. Now the biggest drawback here is that it wouldn’t be possible to tell which Titanium Ore is which without an addon since the game doesn’t show IDs in tooltips. They’d have to make the new ore Rare or something.
Where do people come up with this garbage? holy crap for a 20+ year old game, people sure spread lot of bs and garbage, guess that’s from social media twitch/youtube crap saying nonsense 24/7.
I’ve horaded materials in Classic vanilla, and classic tbc, and when new patches released, they were utilized in new markets…you will get the epic gems from ore you save now when the content is released…lol
