The main issue is that most channeled spells are clipped or cast infrequently, while Void Torrent is cast frequently and shouldn’t be clipped unless absolutely necessary, so I think an exception can be made. Dark Energy makes that issue almost a complete non-issue, or at least it would if it weren’t a mutually exclusive with No Escape. Nothing more fun than sacrificing a powerful mob control tool to avoid turret gameplay. Every other class gets mobility and some amount of CC…priest gets neither baseline, and must choose one or the other in the hero talents because other classes do those things and only mage is allowed to encroach on other classes.
They could buff the damage. Or just let Void Torrent be channeled while moving baseline rather than making it a hero talent. Or just not make it a choice against No Escape.
I just don’t want to play another expansion where I’m rooting myself 10% of the time while already playing the only class Blizzard insists must have two broken knees.
Void weaver has a talent that lets you move while channeling but yes it does seem long
It does, but you sacrifice an AoE slow for it and you take it solely to stop Void Torrent from being agonizing to press. Let’s be honest - the 20% movement speed in Dark Energy has practically no value. If you need that movement speed, you need to be moving faster than that and you’re going to use feather, PWS, or be in a situation where there’s a roar or similar effect being used.
It’s also funny that is such a small number when several classes just move that fast, or faster, naturally, usually using a talent placed somewhere like where Dispersion or Silence or Psychic Horror or Thought Harvester or Tithe Evasion or Phantasm or Holy Nova are placed. You know, spots in our talent trees where there’s something so necessary (or useless or outdated) for the class to function that it almost seems bizarre it’s taking up talent real estate when the class has numerous unique handicaps that no other class experiences.
Didn’t they add a suck in effect when the rift ends?
Yea, that is way better then trying to maintain some stupid form, especially since it’s a 30 sec cd right now and not 2.
The main issue with void torrent is it doesn’t scale with haste.
It does… It scales with haste better than any of our other spells almost.
Haste does not affect the cast time of void torrent at all.
No matter how much haste you have it is a 3 second channel.
Yes. It affects the tick rate of the spell instead, massively increasing its damage.
If void torrent’s channel time was reduced by haste it would be awful because it has a cooldown, you’d just be getting the same amount of damage in less time instead of significantly more damage, and since nothing even comes close in power to channelling void torrent that just means going back to pressing worse buttons sooner.
I said it does not affect the cast time, that is not a yes, it is a no, as it does not.
Im not talking about tick rate, who cares about tick rate?
Back to pressing worse buttons sooner? wtf?
Sp is not a press 1 button nuke spec, we do little dmg hits that add up with apparitions, void torrent doesn’t even give you apparitions.
So getting it out the way the better so you can go back to doing actual damage.
Having haste affect void torrent cast time would be much better. You can get your cast off sooner and avoid whatever swirly you pve kids need to avoid, and us pvpers can go back to doing sp things.
It would be significantly unquestionably worse.
Yea, imma just ignore the level 10 priest
bro is legit clueless
Like you realize a shorter cast time does not = less dmg right? the tick rate would just increase more.
You have no clue how game design works, stop arguing
The tick rate would increase but it wouldn’t increase the damage the spell deals over it’s duration. It would just reduce the duration. Same number of ticks over a shorter amount of time.
Which is great when the spell in question is spammable. Less great when that spell has a 30-45 second cooldown and does more DPS than the spell you’d press otherwise…
You don’t cap on insanity, you don’t leave bolt off cd longer than a moment, you don’t let blast charges cap to 2. The only thing you get out of a shorter void torrent is more time pressing mind flay, and mind flay sucks.
Wrong, you get the channel out the way so you can do other stuff.
what don’t you understand? no one wants to sit there channeling void torrent for 3 secs, im pretty sure the pver’s here want to get it out the way before the raid boss forces them to move.
What other stuff?. If I cast void torrent while blast and bolt are on cd I have no other stuff to want to do besides press mind flay waiting for blast and bolt to come off cd.
It’s actually pretty easy to cast void torrent on cd in raids. It was a little hairy on P1 Fyrakk during progress but we had to hold DPS anyway by the time we were close to a kill so it kinda stopped mattering. And again, all you’d get out of shorter torrent is more filler spells because void torrent does not reduce the number of blasts or bolts you cast in a fight.
I get all you care about is not getting kicked on cast in solo shuffle lobbies but say that instead of misunderstanding the spec in other areas of the game to try to badly support your argument.
you realize mind flay/mind spike generates insanity so you can devouring plague right?
The sooner you get the void torrent out of the way the sooner you can go back to doing other things, like moving out of swirlys, or purging or stunning, or power word shielding, or gripping your team mates, you have a TON of things you can do as a shadow priest.
Like what are you talking about?
So it’s better for PvP? Say that then. Stop making up hypotheticals about content you don’t play to try to strengthen your argument because they fall flat on their face.
No, void torrent cast time scaling with haste is literally better for all content.
If the dmg is the same why would you want to channel for 3 secs over 2?
Doesn’t matter the content, wtf are you arguing for?
Just say you don’t know how to play a sp and all you do is dmg, you don’t provide a single thing to your team but damage right?
Like how is using power word shield or life grip or life swap or even stunning mobs in m+ only for pvp?
My god your a troll to the max.
Oh ok. I see your problem now.
You don’t get to do both.
You either do A x (1.h) damage over Y seconds.
Or you do A damage over Y/(1.h) seconds.
You do not get to do A x (1.h) damage over Y/(1.h) seconds. That would be using the value of haste twice in the calculation and lead to ludicrous haste scaling.
The choice is between fixed damage over haste scaling duration, or haste scaling damage over fixed duration. And the better of the two is the latter because it results in more damage per cast.
Another reason why it would be nice to have control over how our channel spells deal damage.
You want MORE damage done during the channel?
You want the channeled spell to deal its channel QUICKER?
In the case of MORE damage, give talent option that affects channel spells the same way the WoD leveling perk affected Mind Flay.
WoD Shadow Leveling Perk…
Mind Flay : Your Mind Flay deals damage 33.3333% faster.
In the case of dealing its channel QUICKER, give a talent option that affects channel spells the same way that 10.0 Mind Sear worked.
Both talent options should reside where current Malediction occupies.
Both talents should affect…
- Mind Flay
- Mind Sear (if it returns)
- Void Torrent
- Void Tendrils from Idol of C’thun procs
I list out some ways that these and other channel based talent enhancement ideas can be implemented here…
Nothing he’s said is wrong.
I’m not proposing that Void Torrent should be weaker than it is - I want it to feel better to press than it does. We’re already a turret class, we have functionally zero CC, and we have the worst mobility options in the game by a dozen miles. Giving up even a little CC to be able to move a little bit feels bad.
