Endless tank bottleneck

Exactly…Which is why I corrected the other fellow. He believe that you need X for it to be fun. When in fact the difference of roles and specs is what makes it fun for a variety of players.

Doesn’t matter what game I’m playing the first question I ask is can I build a Tank or some sort of Sword and Board build.

Everyone plays WoW or different specs in games for different reasons and one isn’t more fun than the other just that it fits certain play styles people enjoy.

Then don’t tell him he’s “incredibly wrong”
Edit, “incredibly incorrect”

He is wrong though. Since he is incorrectly addressing the problem and what other people like in WoW. Increasing Tank damage to make them Dps isn’t the answer since damage itself isn’t the problem. Nor does doing Dps make the game fun. So he is in fact wrong on many levels. Which I pointed out. Perhaps you aren’t understanding the entire conversation in context.

Balance isn’t the problem and people like specs for different reasons.

Most of the people telling OP to go tank themselves probably would never go tank themselves if they’re DPS or heals, so why is it okay to try and tell someone else that they should give up the class/spec/role they play?

I read it as comparing the roles, that dps was more fun. Must have missed where he asked to increase tank damage? Did he?

Why tell people how to play at all for that matter

Yea…

That is how it started soooo he was way off base on why people choose roles. I am correcting him in that I don’t need to play Dps to enjoy the game and specifically have mained Prot for other reasons that I find far more fun than Dps.

Imagine saying the reason people don’t play tank is because it’s not the same as Dps… :man_facepalming:

And a lot of times the people saying for others to go tank are the same people that will totally dump on new tanks trying to learn to tank and claim that not everyone should try to go tank. People just don’t like being constructive or sympathetic and would rather shrug off other people’s concerns.

People are odd, I’ll give you that. I’d know, I live in one

only solution would be queues, yea i know people are gonna say that defeats the purpose of the old lfg system and the “classic” experience but really those times are gone and your never gonna get them back. even this classic mode is nowhere near what vanilla was like when everything was new and fresh. we are just kidding ourselves

of course if they made queues happen i still dont think it should transport you to the dungeon. thats dumb imo. should just form the group and everyone should walk or travel there. summoning stones… i dont know about those either =P

wut?

You mean like retail where dps has 30 min + queue waits? lol

thats for people who rely on them, anyone can have a “friend” or guildie tank for them. im pretty sure there is some group right now waiting 30 minutes to find a tank in a highly populated bc server

So how are queues a solution? SL has exactly the same tank shortage despite all its dual spec, LFG finder etc etc.

its not really a solution but it does make it easier to form groups. i have noticed so far in this launch that people tend to leave right away if a tank isnt found in 10 minutes. have to start over again and make a group. usually people are waiting for some group to spam the last spot needed. also forming groups is kind of a pain when no one is helping you (endlessly spaming in a chat channel or spamming macros)

The fact is there will always be a tank shortage. Some changes may help but it will not fix it. We all play a class/spec for our own reasons. I enjoy tanking and find dps boring. That’s just me.

Tanks will always be short supply…

You only need 2(maybe one backup) per raid… so most guilds only have a handful…
In comparison to healers and DPS…which make up 80% of the raid…

In addition, tanks get the 2nd most stress when things go bad…

It takes a special person to tank… even then… they can get burned out…

dungeon finder won’t solve that problem. LFG channel exists. If nobody is on the channel nobody is LFG.

I always assume it’s the same reason why I, as a Ret Paladin, would rather have my teeth pulled than sit down and work out a healing set and then stand in the back and heal.

Some people would rather play the way they want, quest between dungeons, and do fewer dungeons, rather than play something they don’t like just to do more dungeons in a play style they dislike.

Pretty much the definition of a “good Tank” by community expectation is that the Tank out gears the content they’re doing.

This expectation is why most players will dps until they get “geared enough” to Tank. “Geared enough” essentially means out gearing the content.

Due to this expectation there are always Tank shortages at the start of a content tier - because no-one out gears the content at that point.

You will generally only see raid Guild Tanks tanking instances at that stage and then they probably don’t pug if they can help it.

Basically, be patient. As soon as more guilds start farming the badges and the raid content there will be more and more people willing and able to tank. Otherwise, lower your expectations and expect to have a bumpier or slower ride with “bad” (aka less geared) tank.

Blizzard could hire people to play tanks tbh. Just have them monitor LFG chat and log to a toon of the appropriate level and gear then join the group that has been spamming for a significant period of time.
