Endgame in Retail and Classic - Thoughts

I feel the aspect of “leveling is the game” doesnt hold up well in an expansion vs. the base game.

As early as TBC, when you only have 10 levels to go leveling just cant be the main focus anymore because its much too short.

The natural question is then…what can I do at cap? Which is why heroic dungeons were created, raids started getting more elaborate, and arena started.

Did you seriously feel the need to make another Classic vs Retail thread? Good lord. How many do we need?

Both games are like night and day and one of them won’t get any new content. Stop with the vs crap. Back then (15 years ago) most of us had more time to put into a game. Now, most of us don’t. Times change as do QoL improvements in long running games. If people hate retail and kept whining about the days well now they can go play Classic and be happy.

There is no vs. I played since the first week of launch and have never taken a break from the game so I have seen the game change and evolve. Sure some things were bad but at least Blizzard tries new things to try and keep the game fresh. I don’t want most of the Vanilla stuff back in today’s WoW. I don’t have 50 hrs a week to put into the game.

Retail needs a donkey mount and everything will be fixed.

I want classic AND retail to both succeed. As a shareholder, I just want subs to go up.
Yup…I’m the real person that players should hate. Not the devs.

Not correct, wow classic is having transfers FROM high population realms that are still having queues from release to new servers they’ve had to open due to how many people are trying to play

As I clearly stated, I was not sure and did not care. but ty.

Darkfist summed up what I was saying pretty well. I’m not trying to do another Classic vs retail thread. At all. I think people saw the title and jumped in without reading through what I posted? (Or I wrote it badly).

I was just comparing the focus of each and how Blizzard have changed what they focus on (e.g. levelling as a goal vs trying to get through it as quickly as possible and onto raiding). Which, IMO at least, ties into some of the decisions they’ve made that people love or hate. Both back in 2004 and nowadays.

I’m kind of the opinion that its easy to go ‘x is bad’ or ‘I love y’. But it’s more useful to try and figure out why a mechanic exists in the first place. Why a designer changed the focus on a particular bit of gameplay, altered a class etc. If nothing else, that interests me as a player.

An example of this would be cross server play. Classic doesn’t have it, Retail does. On one side you gain a much tighter knit server community. On the other side you reduce server imbalance which occurs (along with shorter queues for things like BGs which were a problem back in the day). Both the original idea and the change were made for reasons, not randomly. And both came with advantages and flaws that just going one way or another don’t entirely solve.

Any particular reason why you are so sour? Is it a bad day or everyday thing? Because if it’s the latter I think you should take a day off.

The funny irony of this statement. What do you think came before retail?

The irony in this statement, Classic was always called Retail? So retail is still classic by your logic?

What is my everyday life any of your business, some people that play this game are so strange. lol.

I bet you have fun here advising anyone that is “sour” to you to take days off, there are tons, have fun with that.

Classic is an experience, but 15 years on, retail is much better in every possible scenario. You can form groups in retail and end game requires grouping, so social part is a phony argument. I already played classic.

There is a donkey mount. Model could use some work though.

Yea… and people like this I tend to find to be the most self-absorbed jerks you never want to deal with.

Enjoy your game.

Yeah, there’s a lot of them, Classic is what people are talking about right now. There’s always a lot of something.

Posting smugly about how you ‘ha ha didn’t read lol’ literally contributes nothing to anything, however. I don’t care what the topic of discussion is, or how overplayed it is, just move on and don’t post. All you’re really doing is pushing something you don’t like further up the board.

Even the dumbest of threads can, by the way, incite some interesting discussion if you let them. Just shutting them down or proclaiming from your high horse that you’re better than them contributes - again - nothing.

My thoughts…

If you like and play classic great have fun it is what you wanted.
If like me you play retail while ignoring classic great have fun.
If you play both great have fun and enjoy both games.

Try playing it and see for yourself. I didn’t read the original post either.
I like retail better, I play classic because there are things that I miss.
