End dungeon boosting now

It would be a trivial amount of work for Blizz to change xp gain so that you get 0 if in a party with a much higher level character.

This change would do so much good: now there’s more people out in the world questing. There’s more people forming low level groups. (I can’t remember, is there anyone on these forms who’s been asking for help with that?)

Even from the tin foil hat “Blizz only cares about selling boosts” perspective, (that I don’t buy but whatever) great, this will probably sell more character boosts.

There’s no reason not to patch this now!

Add LFD and the boosting problem mostly disappears.

I’m pro LFD myself but everything there is to say on that has already been said. This is something (probably) less controversial that would still improve the game!

A Season of Mastery style fix is a good way. I’d say it fixes it entirely but someone shared some interesting perspective about using twinks to boost but for the most part I played SoM and no one was boosting.

The “fix” was changing the way XP worked where you don’t get a lot from being grouped with higher levels, and doing things like stopping mobs from being rooted/slowed which the second thing would have to be changed in regards to how the boosts were done.

RDF would give people another option for those who want to run dungeons but would in no way fix dungeon boosting or the spam. The people who don’t want to work to level and just want a character at 70/80 will continue to use the dungeon boosts. The people who say that RDF will fix this are not being realistic.

Nothing will happen before Wrath either way.

Well do you want something to happen? Because if we actually found some improvements we mostly all agree on and present a united front I think Blizz would work with us.

Yes, I would like for something to happen that truly fixes the dungeon boosting because of the RMT issue. Although I don’t think everyone buys or sells gold from this I do know a lot of the boosters themselves are selling gold and that’s bad IMO. It would be great to see this revenue stream completely taken away from them in the broadest way possible to where they can’t get it anymore.

I hand-level my characters. Even though the dungeon boost exist I don’t use them. Would it have been nice to do some dungeons? Sure, and that is a great reason to ask for RDF alone. Just not to fix dungeon boosting because it wouldn’t.

Did not being able to do dungeons make me want to boost? No. Most of the people I talk to that dungeon boost have zero desire to play any of the low-level content and only want to get to end game.

I know you would also like to see dungeon boosting ended in the best way possible and that’s what your thread is about. That’s good.

I help people in 50-65 dungeons sometimes if I see them posting for a bit and struggling to get that fourth or fifth member and I wouldn’t want these groups to get 0 EXP if I joined them.

Alot of boosting is done with a prot Paladin or frost mage because of their ability to pull large numbers of enemies at once and aoe then down, I think something similar to what SoM tried is something along the lines of when 12+ or more elites are in combat with a player character together they enrage substantially increase in damage and becoming resistant to snares.
Or even just put a debuff on players/NPCs whichever it takes that prevents when 12 or more elites are pulled that removes Exp.

In this way, boosting begins to lose value as it’s slowed down greatly and we’re still able to help those in need without ruining their run.

Not if it’s still more “efficient” to sit AFK at the entrance and let a high level farm for you.

You assume the problem is because people can’t find groups.

I leveled my main in vanilla. Twinked a rogue to 29 in BC, and I didn’t do any alts til wrath when DK’s started at 55. I took advantage of a friend who powerleveled me with the recruit a friend option.

I hate leveling. In wow the game doesn’t start til max level. Leveling from vanilla-3.3 was awful and panful. LDF made it somewhat bearable.

Players who aren’t buying boosts will be fine with buying a run through UBRS/Scholomance/Stratholme (and later, the TBC dungeons) for the purposes of completing quests.

I still have UBRS quests to do since UBRS can’t be one-manned due to needing more players to ‘summon’ the fire elemental mini-boss.

So even if you do want to offer some of your free time to run a group through a lower level dungeon, there will still be players who want that.

I wouldn’t reduce experience gain to zero, I would reduce it by approximately 90%.

When I was playing Season of Mastery I had a pally who was level 46 and a group of my level 60 guildies carried me through several runs of BRD. I got a little experience but definitely not much. They were after HoJ. They invited me to get “unwanted gear” and just to help out and group up together. If I had been at a high enough level for the quests that could have been a part of it too.

So this kind of thing can still take place.

I also think that the argument of having RDF in the game for doing lower-level dungeons is a great argument, I just don’t think that it’s related to “fixing” boosts.

In addition, I think that if people like dungeon boosting being in the game that’s fine, but don’t be hypocritical when it comes to this (I’ve seen some who are).

I don’t think anyone would equate helping out a friend like this to being AFK while a max level solos the dungeon in exchange for gold or IRL money.

Whole heap of boosters who were doing this got banned on my server recently.

Definitely didn’t get banned for that since it breaks no rules.

As far as the occasional bot ban waves….make a new account, buy a boost from Blizzard. Back in business!

For some it is. I woke up 2nd account in pre announcement buzz. Got the no lfd surprise!

now it rides out its time self boosting. and this is how I saw blackfathom depths. Not a popular place in lfg. I’ve asked a few times, I know this well lol.

nor is night elf land in general a jumping spot. the brave…leave it asap. they get their one shot deaths on the walk to sw by crokolisks. Human land setups better dungeon rotations you see. It can be arduous…but it has a payout to be worth it.

the less brave…level to 20 then do the walk. If wise they take the 1 or 2 quests to kill animals in menethil on the way to fly back to menethil once they get the sw slight point to get some quest xp from the run. IF 20+ there is also a few quick kill orcs quests by tunnel 2/3 that run out fast enough…

if they’re not going to put in LFD, don’t touch boosting. Better to boost myself through low level dungeons than spend hours finding no group.

Was LFD even in at the start of wrath?

Don’t join any of those groups. Problem solved.
:axe:

No, but the community and the game was different back then. If you wanted to do low level dungeons there was plenty of new people coming in.

There’s barely any new people now.
