One of the states that saw the highest rate of residents leaving over the last few years. “eVeRYonE wAnTs tO LiVe tHeRe”

Ofc no system is perfect and there’s winners and losers in all of them.

Still in the US its a lot more open ended because you have a lot more control on your income.

To take your example again, If you want the tax breaks from owning a home just save and work until you can afford one. Heck just buy a plot of land and park a trailer on it. Can’t do that if the government just yanks your money no matter what.

My point was simply that what seem to be perfect from an outside PoV always hides problems.

Somebody hasn’t been paying attention the last twenty years.

Blame the government for that. Good 'ol Barry saying ‘we’ll back any mortgage you make!’ to banks.

Oh trust me i’m smack dab in the middle of that problem. I’ve been looking to buy a place for a couple years.

But i’m working around it. What the heck else i’m supposed to do, whine about it online?

Well, for starters, people could vote for officials who will tame the housing problem by instituting massive vacancy taxes on people who leave housing vacant and off the market as an “investment”.

Also, banning airbnb and the like would be a huge win.

That’s unconstitutional.

It’s also been proven that you’d actually pay less in taxes and benefits if you had universal healthcare. The total amount coming out of your paycheck would go down.

Hard agree. Airbnb was one these “neat on paper” ideas that turned into a nightmare.

But in the meantime the only thing i have control over is what i do.

You also wait longer, get inferior care, and you can’t see the doctor you want.

Wait longer for non essential things maybe.

The rest could be solved and reworked. I’d take all of those things than have to deal with medical bankruptcy

Weird how the people who have universal healthcare in other nations tend to enjoy it.

I’d rather pay the premium for Blue Cross, thanks. I’ll pass on your government-run healthcare.

Because they live in a less populated nation where the government controls most of their lives. Imagine that.

I mean here in Quebec our “free” healthcare is $800/y flat plus our higher tax rates.

I’m not american but i’d be curious how much a standard insurance policy is yearly.

Yes if you aren’t covered by anything going to the hospital is going to bankrupt you but you shouldn’t be in that situation in the first place.

Yeah, all of Europe and Canada are fully controlled by their governments

And how do you expect me to avoid being in a situation where I develop cancer?

Do people read news anymore? Or do they just live on Twitter?

You don’t avoid the cancer, you avoid having no insurance to cover it. That’s what i meant.

And what happens when I can’t afford insurance?

The government will subsidize it.
