Employees leaving Blizzard due to RTO

I’d take the return of SOTA over it.

That one when your team is not really working it well is over fast for the whole cycle. And no annoying voice overs.

So it has that going for it.

If I had to drive 1.5 hours per day just to come and go to work, I’d have quit already.

Good thing I work remotely, and when I do have to com to office, it’s only a 15-20 min. (3-4 miles) drive tops.

I wish public transportation over here was good and safe enough for me to skip driving entirely when it comes to work-related reasons…

You must LOVE driving.

For programming/gamedev work, Home Office is completely feasible after an adaptation period. We’re the only ones losing from this.

P.S.: My last company pretty much went under when I left so… Yeah… Some people are that important to the work when they can’t be replaced fast enough (and the company is that disorganized).

Get the MuteSoundFiles add on.
That was a literal game changer for that BG.

You mean to tell me you can’t handle a fifteen minute drive? Software engineers indeed.

You can claim your commute on taxes. A 1.5 hr commute would get you a refund back. My company gives extra pay for commutes, we have ppl that come from out of state and they also get per diem while they are here

From my perspective that line of thinking doesn’t add up. Because BFA was a HORRIBLE expansion as well. I think there’s more to be said about how they developed both expansions rather then where they were when content was being created.

Another example is WoD. That was well before the pandemic

BFA was bad cuz of borrowed power, azerite armor replacing sets and for me, the longer GCD. But it had a lot of content. And you can use wod in the past as an example, but during covid and WFH the whole industry suffered, not just wow

You think that’s the dream? Lol, my commute to work is 4 minutes on a good day, maybe 8 minutes in the winter.

Yeah that’s what I’m saying though. They were in the offices when that xpac was made. So it doesn’t seem like them being in cubicals equates to a good expansion

I’m actually a network infrastructure manager + full stack developer + DevSecOps.
Hate Software Engineering.

I can. Not 45 mins. Not every day.
I had to do it for 2 years on my first job, and it was 130 freaking minutes (50min going to work, 80 min coming home on rush hour), from one extreme of the city to the other.
Never again.

I totally get why people would quit over this, provided they can find similar jobs without this requirement.

Good for the people on your country I guess.

Except you already do half of that travelling when going to lunches with people on Fridays/Starbucks runs

Or even go drinking after work downtown

So people quitting for that is bull but they don’t complain when spending that same time after work

Hopefully everyone who leaves due to having to show up at the office gets a “no rehire” stamp.

Also, wasn’t it last year you guys were crying about how all the Blizzard employees were living in their cars? I guess they’d rather chill in their cars all day rather than walk into the office?

This 100%

They think they’re gonna cause Blizzard to go down in flames but they really aren’t

They were fine before you and they’ll even be better afterwards when they have people wanting to work

Im in America working for a supposedly corrupt employee hating company, Berkshire Hathaway

Bold of you to assume I even drink.
For the past few years, I’ve pretty much only left home on Sundays.

Let’s see how this whole thing works for Blizzard though.

I’m not though, so there’s that.

It’s not just the added expense of gas, wasted time sitting/idling in traffic, repairs, car insurance, etc

One thing being over-looked in this discussion is that more people seem to identify as introverted nowadays. So while they might not have problems doing the actual job/work, it does get draining trying to “put on an act” in a physical building/office setting (trying to come across as social, play office politics, BS’ing with co-workers, etc)

But with WFH you’re automatically more comfortable since that subtle/hidden “social pressure” of a physical office setting is completely absent in the comfort of your own house or apartment (if that makes sense). This frees up some of that mental energy/stamina you would otherwise be diverting towards “trying to come across as social” (…which makes you more productive/focus on the task at hand better/etc).

Personally I find I’m at my best when I have a task to do and am just left on my own - with no one “looking over my shoulder” - but that’s just me

For people born as natural extroverts/came “stock” with high social skills, yes, those types flourish in the physical office setting - they blend in seamlessly to the environment, they’re in their element. But more and more people seem to be identifying as introverts, and WFH is simply the better of the two for introverts (it’s not even a close comparison)

So there’s more factors to take into consideration, it’s not just saving money on gas or cost-of-living

But even that is not stopping most from going to work even on a hybrid schedule. Forbes and Goldman Sachs have done studies looking into WFH-burnout and zoom fatigue, and why such things are causing the WFH rate to decline instead of rise.

Skilled IT jobs are not oversaturated, never will be, once you get to engineering level you will have jobs for life, that’s where these people are. People like you who work blue collar jobs, if you even work at all can be jealous all day, but it won’t change the fact these people know they’re good and can demand where to work.

My personal Tacoma takes $50 in a full tank of gas, a car is going to be way less

If you can’t afford $30 in gas stop buying fast food/$8 Starbucks coffee

Every major city have a $3-$6 toll road your traffic problems are resolved

You can change your own oil for $20 depending on oil, your fault for getting screwed at mechanics

Tire rotation all you need is a jack and a socket wrench

Cabin filter is in your glove compartment, oil filter is under neath a plastic cover in your hood

The only thing majority people can’t do is tire alignment

You’re all getting screwed for not knowing basic maintenance

You can get away with changing belts at least

the people they lose are likely to not return

How dare our employees not be happy with our company! Especially the females who were being harrassed! Get back in your cubicals for the crawl! :rage:
