I think the real answer is that this system is so massive and interconnected and they’re so proud of it that they don’t want to spend the time to address those concerns. They’d rather release it and see what happens and if it’s really bad they’ll fix it later.
I asked chatGPT to make it make sense on a 2nd grade level-
Sure, here’s a very simple explanation:
-
New Coins: In the game, you can get new types of coins. They’re called Flightstones and Shadowflame Crests. You use them to make your stuff better!
-
Shadowflame Crests: There are four kinds: Whelpling’s, Drake’s, Wyrm’s, and Aspect’s. You get them from big fights and hard challenges. If you need more, you can buy them from a seller named Spinsoa.
-
Boxes You Can Buy: Spinsoa also sells boxes with Shadowflame pieces. But, you can only buy each box once a week.
-
Pieces per Week: Every week, you can get pieces to make 10 Crests. As weeks go by, you might get more. Some Crests you can get right away, others come later.
-
Learn More: To learn more, talk to a friend named Vaskarn in a place called Loamm. She gives you special tasks that teach you how to use these new coins to make your stuff better!
No, it’s overly complicated with a handful of currencies.
this new “system” is horrible. why would you replace your most simple and popular upgrade system that everyone knows, valor, with this convoluted multi-material nonsense? this is insane. Dragonflight was literally going so well in terms of systems until this. But you just couldnt resist could you? You HAD to make a convoluted system to replace something already beloved, because its in your developmental DNA.
This is a HUGE mistake. If you want all content to offer upgradable currency, then just allow VALOR to drop from all content! Problem solved! NO new system! Everyone gets it! This is going to have a rediculous learning curve and grind and you know for a fact you’re going to nerf it halfway through the patch in response to player feedback or get rid of it altogether for Valor by the end.
Why do you make changes that you KNOW players will hate only to revert them in the middle of a patch? You know this system is bad, you know players dont like it, and you know you’re going to get rid of it. SO WHY!?
nonsense, all they would have to do is nerf valor output for lower keys. PROBLEM SOLVED
But that solution has a negative impact on the players that only do lower keys, which creates a new problem. Why should they have to work harder to upgrade their gear?
The new system is complicated, but every player has the same ability to upgrade their gear in the bracket that they play in…while not encouraging degenerative gameplay.
Also, including world and raid gear in the upgrade system means that the system had to change. It would be difficult to manage upgrades for all of those activities with valor alone.
Oh look MOAR CURRENCIES!
/facedesk
I honestly had to read the blue posts multiple times before I fully understood all the new systems in s2.
Remember when the world just had treasure, either in a chest or on a mob or a quest chain?
Now it’s all coupons and tokens, collectible doodads, mcguffins…
oh well, hope the new zone is at least interesting, Dragon flying in a big cavern etc etc, little put off by the cowboy molemen but this is where we are now.
1 currency…
Think im doing better then the games director, only took 1 number and word.
Yuck.
So much convoluted time gated piddly jank drip feed system for progression currency and systems, as usual.
These bean counter devs are so out of touch. It’s either that or they are grossly incompetent. Maybe even straight up trolling.
These are crappy mechanics that failed mmorpg’s used. The janky grind fest asian ones. What the heck?
What happened to all the vision, talent and passion at Blizzard? It’s almost like they dont have actual developers, or even people that play games. Just a bunch of beam counting accountants sitting around looking at graphs and spreadsheets, calculating “fun” based on skewed selective metrics that no one thinks is fun, to fool the investors into letting them continue to hapheartedly flop rehashed failed mechanics into WoW and call it a day, without needing to hire more staff, or do any work themselves
WoW .
I hope someone gets fired for this nonsense. It literally sounds INSANE. Who in their right mind agreed with that? Is there just some head guy that makes every decision and a bunch of yes people behind them? NO ONE wants multiple currencies OR multiple items just to upgrade gear. ONE CURRENCY. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID = KISS. As a vanilla player I am always still amazed by the most ridiculous things I have seen Blizzard come up with. It’s not cool. It’s not trendy. It’s not state of the art. It’s not thinking outside the box. It’s just bad.
And I say this as someone who otherwise loves the game. But these WEIRD and BIZZARE systems you guys come up with are just so far out in left field I just. can’t. even.
I can see that being the case. They have a track history of this.
I hope it goes over well, but this is the same approach they went with Azerite Everything and Covenants. And yes I understand this is a different thing, but the process “Throw something at the wall and see what sticks” just doesn’t tend to work out well much of the time.
I foresee this killing any incentive for higher levels m+ key runners to ever join up with lower level m+ key runners. Previous system would allow higher level runners to still try and maybe get that one piece of BIS gear from a +2 and then just upgrade it for a quick and painless run.
Except that it still kind of is - you needed to do higher keys (to get higher rating) to even be able to upgrade gear to certain levels.
You still need to do higher keys to upgrade to the bigger levels. Sure it’s not directly tied to rating, but the activity which drove the rating is still in the equation.
I dont mind the new changes. But i thought Valor farming was healthy… it helps alts and lowbie toons to be geared. With this new system, it’s like we are abandoning alts and lowbie players to catch up.
If you are left behind in M score and gear, you are on your own as the high level people would rather do the high keys instead of helping lowbie geared alts.
The high level players were doing low keys to upgrade some few items they have. Once they upgraded these few items, they would be back on doing high keys to beat them. Now, the new system wants high level players to stay on high level grinding for their stuffs. It doesnt matter to me. But it would matter to lowbie players who need some help.
But i think Blizz knows why they have to do this as maybe they found out that many high level players were abusing the system. These abusive players fill their whole slots with ilevel 418/415 by spamming low keys. Oh well,…
On me, i spammed some low keys for Valor but the upgrades i need were used to beat up higher keys. I could farm high keys instead… it really doesnt matter to me. I thought i was helpful to other lowbie players when i did low key Valor farming.
So I need… 6 different currencies to upgrade things?
Keep it simple. It’s just silly at this point.
WE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO WATCH A YOUTUBE VIDEO TO EXPLAIN YOUR GAME DESIGNS!
Ohh look, another overly complicated ( I have no life ) system tossed to the lab rats. Must be great to be a Dev. here. Nobody, and I mean nobody likes to go through a long slog-fest of multiple currencies to “upgrade” gear.
And of course the non-raiders get the shaft again by slogging through all this for item levels hilariously below the raiders. And I still laugh at Ion’s interview when he stated that 30+ items levels is too much of a gap between gear, but here we are well beyond that. Dude is a pathological liar.
I don’t like your overcomplicated get this piece of gear from this storyline, but oh wait it’s worthless because this other gear can be upgraded higher system. But wait there is more you can upgrade this other gear even higher woooo!
Which part made it too convoluted?
