ElvUI or base UI and why?

ElvUI for me purely because of the sheer amount of customization.

Base because it looks better to me. Moveany helps me customize it how I like it.

Since DF Base UI has got everything I need. A lot more customisable

Before then ElvUI.

Elvui, base UI while an improvement, still isn’t on the level of Elvui.

Exactly this. The gap between the two is much, much smaller these days, but you’ll still need addons ontop of the base UI to fully replicate ElvUI so it wins still.

Plus I quite like the aesthetics of ElvUI.

Neither…

I prefer Bartender/Shadowed Unit Frames.

Tbh, I haven’t actually used ElvUI for more than a frustrating 30 or so mins.

Base.

Why use elvui when I can set up the base to be identical?

Base UI and a few tweaks from Sexy Map and Shadowed Unit Frames. I can’t stand ElvUI personally.

Neither.

I like thr ability to have on my screen what I want and need to see without the fluff. Most of it doesn’t exsist in the base UI and ElvUI has too much fluff and changes settings I don’t want changed.

I use the addons I want and set them up how I need them to work.

Base UI. I don’t do enough customizing to bother with UI addons.

I used to use ELVUI a few others, but with all the updates to the default UI I’ve gotten rid of most of them. Default now combines bags, lets you move everything including name plats and the mini map, and now has decent timer animations. So I’ve really pared down my addons and only have one that improves enemy nameplates to better track threat and my bleeds, and Cursortrail so I don’t lose sight of my cursor, and Immersion.

I am also keeping an eye on a couple of addons in the works that turn quest text into voice over dialogue. They are neat, but the voices are very computer generated sounding. I’m hopeful that AI type stuff will improve that with time.

Because you can’t come close to setting up the base UI anywhere near the customization you can in Elvui.

What’s one feature / customization that you can’t do?

I can use custom profiles tailored to the information I need for each specific class or role on the fly.

You can adjust/tinker/change every single aspect of the ui with Elvui. To get that same functionality with the base UI you need to use other addons that are already baked into Elvui as a complete package

I can’t make certain action bars visible only on mouseover with the base UI for one. The padding between bars doesn’t go down as far as it does with an addon. Precise placement relies completely on you moving your mouse rather than having clickable arrows or fillable screen coordinates. Certain things remain immovable with base UI. That’s just off the top of my head.

Ah fair enough. I found mouse over action bars annoying. XD.

So simple ease of use.

For me - weak auras is way more powerful clsss specific details than Elve ui - so I always relied on that anyways.

Not to mention Elvui is completely modular. If you like the base unitframes, action bars, nameplates etc., you can keep them while still using other Elvui functionality. If you are a healer and want to tweak how debuffs are displayed on nameplates or unit frames, you can. If you tank you can change the way nameplates display threat. If you just want a minimalist look for your UI you can do that.

As for Weakauras you can fully integrate them into your Elvi set up. There are tons of profiles that do that on Wago.

I’ve used Elvui for a very long time. There’s still a lot more options I utilize with Elvui and I added Windtools a little while back.

The base UI is improving so much though, maybe one day I’ll switch.

You can do this to an extent with base UI.

I’ve personally found other add-ons (eg plater) does it better.

I get the ease of use. Used elve UI for years.

But I like my Ui not breaking every patch day more lol :joy:
