ELVUI not being updated for Midnight

LOL. Ok, well, you are lost to this discussion then. They are forcing me to cast GS even if I don’t want to at that moment, or wait, or do something that does less DPS until I do want to. It’s a joke. The button changes into another spell without me doing anything is crossing a line.

Glacial spike change is nice. Frost taking Unholy’s wound gameplay, not so much.

I’ve used ElvUI for 13 years. More than half the time I’ve played this game (Dec 2004).

These addon changes are far, far, far far too much too fast. It’s one thing to break some weakauras and try to replace some of that functionality baseline. That’s great. It’s also great to reduce the overall complexity of the end-game. Noble goal that is 100% justified.

These changes go WAY beyond that, though. You’re breaking practically every major addon, even things that are entirely cosmetic or QoL like ElvUI. This does nothing to improve the game. It just makes it worse.

Unless these API changes are reverted or the baseline UI gets MUCH, MUCH better in short order, I can’t see myself playing Retail anymore. That’s how catastrophic these changes are to my gameplay experience.

Tbh it boggles my mind that they refuse to just hire the addon devs and integrate addons into the base game.

Instead they are trying to recreate the wheel.

Compute what? It’s literally your own personal hp bar. What relevant “computing” are you getting out of this?

Or even your own resources?

This isn’t being realistic. This is the same angle people like to use for turning retail into classic.

If people wanted that experience, they would play that experience. And what is even worse about your entire opinion on this is you are okay with the rug pull. You are okay with choice being 100% removed?
Why couldn’t they develop their own integrated addons along side 3rd party? Then just let people choose if they want the in-game version or their 3rd party?

It’s just such a naive way of thinking.

That’s a really weird thing to cross a line for you to begin with, especially considering they’ve already been folding abilities into each other like that for awhile now.

It’s been 3years and they haven’t even touched it. It’s not rocket science to see why people use things like bartender or shadow unit frames and then bake it into the base UI.

Their just lazy relied on add ons and it shows.

I think they tried that with Private Auras, then WeakAura devs found a way around it. Thats kinda the base of the addon/design war

I mean.. I wouldn’t expect the game to be even better, but I agree that the game will be fine. During the last 20 years, almost every change to the game or new feature was somehow going to kill the game. Yet here we are.

Not for Frost, not ever. Never ever.

I do wonder how many of the addon devs would actually want that. Working under Blizz, having to meet their requirements, etc.

Even to the point relying on the devs of said addons while making their own version and killing the thing they are trying to copy.

Are we taking bets yet on when they start to backtrack on these changes?
Me thinks a lot is going to happen when beta hits, and even more when it goes live.

Okay you took that one thing and ran with it.

If I removed the words “freak out” and replaced them with “have concerns” would that change anything?

No it wouldn’t

All that typing and you fell over the last 2 words.

That’s certainly part of it, but I also imagine even if they actually needed to hire the addon devs, it would only be temporary and the addon devs wouldn’t want to give up whatever job they have currently in order to take a temporary job.

I think the feedback from addon devs is certainly valuable, but I don’t think they need to hire them.

Yeah I get what you mean about anger…I’m angry myself. But I’m angry in the context of this being a video game that I’m just going to quit if these changes go through. It’s a drop in the ocean compared to things to be angry about in the real world.

I guess it would depend if they hired them like actual employees or private contractors. But with the skills these addon devs have, I would be trying to hire them for my dev team. Especially if I am trying to emulate what they’ve essentially mastered.

They aren’t gonna budge on it. They are hard-headed. They won’t do something until it’s too late. And their addons are never gonna be as good as third party. They just don’t have the capability to dedicate that kind of time to one aspect.

Words have meaning. Again, no mature, rational person should get that upset over a silly game. If you meant something else use the correct words to convey your thoughts.

Pretty much exactly how I feel, except I like the sound of these changes. Don’t get me wrong, I love this game and will still be very sad if this game sucks for an expansion or so, and I feel for other people who feel the same. But it’s certainly not the first time this game has sucked and I quit for a long period of time, and as much as I missed WoW in that time period, I just played other games and still very much enjoyed playing those games instead.

A “silly game” that many of us have spent the better parts of our lives playing?

And tbh it’s hard to take anyone seriously who attempts to undermine arguments with these kinds of terms. If it was truly just a “silly game”, why are you here posting on the forums of a “silly game”?
It’s just a “silly game” after all.

They are doing this to themselves. This isn’t a “bad” expansion or just a bad story arc, this is them gutting a huge part of the game that people use to make their in-game lives better. I played through BFA and SL, I know what a bad xpac is….this isn’t that.
