should also add the only ones who say Malorne and Elune got it on were Night Elves to explain the origins of Cenarius and his ilk. It might have been the easiest way to reconcile their existence. It’s weird because they are clearly half night elf, but older than the night elves evolving from trolls. No one seems to find that unusual…
I’m 90% sure Elune is an Old God living on the moon, perhaps a “good” Old God the way there are light and void Naaru. There’s a lot of evidence pointing toward Elune having some kind of relationship with the Old Gods.
She’s also not that powerful, consider the profession quests in 8.1.5 and how just making Tyrande the Night Warrior is basicallly sapping Elune of all of her power.
I think it’s just the fact that Cenarius, like the Night Elves were shaped by Elune on one way or another… Which got me thinking, if the Night Elves became themselves from the Dark Trolls because of the Well of Eternity, is it possible that Elune could also control the Arcane?
That’s why I think this troll evolution was bunk from the start, poor writing by a retcon obsessed staff hellbent on trashing night elf lore. Either Elune made* them in her image or they didn’t evolve from trolls by mere exposure to the well of eternity but by her direct transforming them.
I personally think she’s a renegade Void Lord or Old God.
She saw that if the Light or Void ever truly win, it’ll be the end of all things. So, she’s doing the whole duality thing. Would explain the light and shadow motifs, would go well with the whole “phases” of the moon thing, and the dual nature of the Naaru should she have created them.
Also, void beings are all about “evolving” things in their image. Mutating the Dark Trolls with her power would be a very Old God thing to do.
The word Elune is somewhat reminiscent of Ilúvatar from LotR (Elu-Ilú). My money is on Elune being a feminine version of Ilúvatar for the Warcraft universe.
I’m not sure what you are trying to link there but it goes nowhere that prove what you are saying.
Also here is the text from 8.1.5:
We have everything we need to craft the drum, except Elune’s blessing.
The drum is but a vessel, like a cup. We need her to imbue the drum with power, filling the cup so that we may drink.
With Tyrande donning the mantle of the Night Warrior, much of Elune’s power is taxed. Asking for another favor is not insignificant, but I must try.
While I’m doing that, I need you to craft the drum. Try to keep it small. The larger the vessel, the more power it can hold, but the harder it becomes to move.
Other things Copeland has said have been retconned to serve the plot.
He is not the Be-All End-All of the plot-line, as his page says “Historians keep track of what Blizzard decides is [canon], they do not make the calls.”
Elune being taxed because she loaded up Tyrande with this Night Warrior power, despite it being completely unimpressive in game, in lore others whom have tried it were torn apart by her raw power so it makes sense most of her favour is in one vessel now.
Exactly. That tweet was from a little over a year ago before Loreology was cancelled and deleted again. Now they answer in Q&As. But nothing has disproven that. So until they retcon it, it’s still canon.
