Elune might be older and more powerful than we ever imagined

Short history lesson you need to know before talking about Elune;

Before life began and before even the universe existed, there was only the Light. The Light existed as a boundless sea of living energy, swelling across all of existence, unfettered by time and space. Yet as the ever-shifting sea expanded, pockets of cold nothingness appeared. From these spaces, the Void coalesced. The Void quickly grew and began to move against the Light, and before long, the mounting tension between the two forces ignited a series of explosions that ruptured the very fabric of creation, giving birth to the physical universe. SOURCE: World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1, pg. 18.

Then we learned;
Khadgar believes that the Prime Naaru were created by Elune during the great ordering of Light and Shadow. SOURCE: From the quest 'Goddess Watch Over You" Quest ID = 44337 or 44338

This means Elune is the same age as the universe because the Ordering of Light and Shadow happened just after the Big Bang. But, she is potentially older than the universe… we just don’t know how far back she goes. Because the fact that Elune was involved with the Ordering of Light and Shadow we know for sure that she is older than the Naaru, older than the Titans, older than basically everything. If she was there at the ordering of light and shadow (which happened just after the ‘big bang’) then she is basically the first ‘thing’, as far as we know, to exist in the modern universe. Maybe she comes from before the universe when there was only light and void?

What can we learn from this? Well, she’s not a Dark Troll or a Night Elf because those are creatures that evolved from Azeroth and Elune comes from before the existence of Azeroth. Some people thought she was a Titan because there was a Pillar of Creation named the Tears of Elune, but this can’t be correct either because she existed before planets (Titans come of planets). Others believe she’s a Naaru, but this is also not true… she CREATED the first Naaru, but isn’t one.

I could go on and go with tid-bits of information about Elune, but above is the most important info when considering the context of this thread. So this brings me to the ultimate question…

What is Elune?

Whoa, interesting. I have read Chronicles but had never done that quest before.

Elune could quite literally BE the Light.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Oh you’re serious. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

If Elune was so powerful then how come Tyrande didn’t manage to one shot Nathanos when she was channeling the direct power of Elune? In fact she got her butt handed to her and would have lost if not for the player. Granted Nathanos is an author insert Mary Sue. A really bad one.

50/50 she’s a void lord.

I mean, she couldn’t save a tree from burning.

And to answer your question on what is Elune? It’s whatever the writers feel like at the time. Elune has to be the most inconsistent deity in wow, and that says a lot.

…Why do you ask questions to which you already have the answers?

In a more serious sense, maybe because, as the Light is a hyper-primeval force, one even moreso than the Void, it might actually be… well, toxic to a universe created on the premise of both Light and Darkness.

The effects of the Void, the Void Lords, and their minions is clear - corruption, madness, chaos, and a general disruption to the workings of the universe. The Void wants to eat the universe, while the Light seems to want to preserve it. Why? … who knows? Maybe it’s just its inherent nature.

The problem is, if the Light is as disruptive to the universe as the Void, there may be a hard and fast limit to how much the Light can do without causing serious, existential damage. Or, minus the Light, there may be limits to how much Elune herself can intervene without pulling an Aman’thul vs. Y’shaarj and inadvertently causing more problems than intended.

Apparently there are no Divine Scalpels, only Divine Hatchets.

…

But yeah, don’t expect Nathanos to be put in his proper place until whatever writer claims him as his personal avatar is booted off the team. If the Titans manage to bottle up Sargeras faster than anticipated and make a quick U-Turn back to Azeroth, he’d probably get the Kerrigan treatment at this point.

People must have done a different version than I did, but this simply isn’t true. Tyrande objectively won that fight, with or without the player.

Maybe Elune doesn’t like to interfere with the process of death? The most she might feel is appropriate is lending a bit of her power and let things play out?

The novella did say that she eased the pain of the Night Elves burning in Teldrassil.

Can someone explain what kind of thing Elune is if the ucky head of an orc does something special for her?

Daily reminder she also took that hot spicy stag meat, lore wise she boinked Malorne to create Cenarius. Also daily reminder, Malorne is never mentioned to have a human/elf form.

I’d be fine with that answer if it wasn’t for the fact that every other deity in this game throws their body on problems.

She feels inconsistent for this world is all I’m saying. Loas, Old God’s, etc all get a taste of any action they can get but Elune seems to be the only being who watches on the side lines.

It doesn’t help that Blizzard can’t even confirm what she is. During WOD it was hinted she was a Naaru now that’s all but ignored.

Maybe she’s on the same level as the Void Lords in that she can kinda influence stuff but can’t really interact with the world.

That’s kind of what I’m getting at. She doesn’t ever seem to interfere when death is an outcome. She’ll give a smudge of blessing and hope for the best.

Elune is a bit benevolent because she doesn’t interfere with the natural cycle of life and death.

It sort’v feels like we’re going to get answers with either this expansion or the next. Elune gives me Pantheon vibes because she can turn physical beings (Ysera) into constellations. That’s not something I think Naaru can do, but it is possible with Titans.

I think shes a caring god but lets the future play out, non interference for the big picture goals thing going on.

In the RPG guide (which isn’t canon) whenever Elune enters everyone stops fighting. She has that type of presence.

Also in many of the short stories she never seems to attack any beings of Azeroth. She only attacks the naga (Old God creation) or the burning legion. I don’t even think she attacks the orcs in any short stories.

She is really a mother figure.

Pretty sure elune is just a Loa/wild god that was infused by the energy from the well of eternity to become the strength she is currently the same way the dark trolls eventually became the night elves though the wellbof eternity… it would explain why she’s depicted as a night elf woman and how she had a kid with a stag to create Cenarius whos half stag and half night elf

Nah she is even a higher power then that. Most indications show that she is either some type of titan, or more akin to an arcane version of the void lords.

Loa/Wild gods could literally contest the burning legion? A wild god with thousands of years exposure to pure arcane energy would be changed and powerful

I believe she is the closest thing to a actual god. When I say ‘actual god’ I mean a god on a universal scale… unlike loa’s and other entities only tied to Azeroth. Anyone a Marvel fan? Think of Elune as the “One Above All”. The One Above All is very very very rarely seen (seen 3 times total I think) and has only interfered a handful of times similar to how Elune only interfered a few times (think of Tyrande getting the Night Warrior buff from Elune, or when Elune turned Ysera into a constellation [<—big feat right there] during Legion, or when Elune healed Broxigars hands when Tyrande asked).

Well, its also said that the Void Lords and Titans were around since the moment of creation as well so its still potential she is just one of them or on their power level.

From the moment the physical universe was born, the void lords had been watching the titans of the Pantheon. - World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1

Life/creation/the physical universe all seemed to happen at once, it didnt really take shape and form slowly over billions of years like our own universe. As far as we are told Titans, Void Lords, Planets, various races, etc all Big Banged into existence because Magic doesnt have time for natural processes apparently.
