Elune Cutscene Anxiety Thread

Lmao culture is absolutely a historical product produced by people

It’s not some amorphous free-for-all yolo thing that exists separately from the culture

If you totally exterminate an ethnic group and burn every book about them, that culture will literally cease to exist.

Borrowing from cultures demands treating those themes with dignity and nuance.

Please stop posting your nonsensical propaganda.

You are not a speaker phone.

I wonder how many - today highly celebrated works in fantasy literature - originated from very questionable pens.

And before anyone started…i know, i know, lovecraft is such a guy…

Please explain your trivialization of Semitic culture by way of using it as a meme name for your video game elf warlock

Lovecraft is actually another instance where he recognized and regretted how horribly racist he was in his youth, and recognized his entire construct of cosmic horror was motivated purely from racial (and class) anxiety.

Again, not an example that helps your argument.

people’s cultures are not “public domain”

80% of modern fantasy literature is based on european civilizations and myths anyway, and i saw never someone …talk about like baal talks about his circumstances

hooooo?? I ASKED

The only demands anyone should adhere to when it comes to their own intellectual property are the demands they make of themselves.

Don’t like my product? Don’t consume it. Go find a product you like. But you are not entitled to my creative process and labor.

it absolutely is.

Culture is defined by the public.

In the West.

Because Western society is Europe & Co.

This is basic.

No. You have an obligation to society and the communities you borrow from.

This is just ugly hyper-individualism.

No. I do not.

…modern fantasy literature…is as far as i remember…a product of the west, yeaaah  I don´t talked about the manga literature or other literatures but the modern fantasy spectrum .

You are conflating “obligations to society” with “obligations to Forum Poster Baalsamael, self-appointed arbiter of cultural contact”

Baal seems like the type of guy who would call orcs racist because they are “angry barbarian trope”

allready happened.

That is hardly surprising.

Baal is wrong.

i mean…the angry barbarian trope…is even an european trope XD thats the funny thing…but many people think it is about black people.

the first people called barbarians…were the germanic and celtic people, from the roman invader.

Anyways repeating myself again:

Lots of books to read, and essays too, such as:

  • Tolkien in Pawneeland by Echo-Hawk
  • The World of Warcraft Reader edited by Coneliussen and Rettberg
  • and more

Peoples and their cultures deserve your respect if you’re borrowing from them.

Arguing against that is weird, and immoral.

Stories are about characters, not cultures.

Having an entire setting filled of one for one clones of IRL cultures evident in entirely respectable and dignified societies sounds like an incredibly boring story.
