When you refuse to allow a race to exist without suffering homogenization and culture erasure, when you refuse to allow them to be anything more than disposable currency both in the sense of their culture defining faith, but also in the sense of narrative motivation (Exchanged for cheap shock value and emotional motivations for none Nelf characters). When you refuse to allow female characters stand on their own and be powerful, forcing them to earn their competency with trauma and tragedy, only to villainize them for pursuing justice… There is just no way for that race to exist in a setting. They are a blank slate, stripped of everything that gave them an identity. A skeleton for an identity to be copy and pasted onto with no power or meaning that is their own.
Night Elves have been dying a slow death, but this cinematic was the killing blow. The Night Elves, as a race, are dead.
My understanding of it, is that Elune felt the tragedy of Teldrassil and immediately moved to siphon the souls to the Arbiter and thus Ardenweald. She didn’t endorse it, she didn’t help but plan it, but after it happened she was quick to help her favored children and sister.
However Elune didn’t know that the machine of Death broke and that all souls were going to the Maw.
To be fair, I don’t think anyone’s going to forgive Sylvanas. It’s just that Tyrande had to make a choice. Put Elune’s power towards Renewal, or Vengeance. It was Tyrande’s decision, since she called down Elune’s power. Despite Teldrassil, Tyrande knew that if she didn’t choose Renewal, all of Shadowlands was more screwed than if she went ham and killed Sylvanas and then died. In the end, Sylvanas is just a pawn. Killing her doesn’t stop Zovaal.
You may recall that there was a Night Elf themed district there called the park. It was destroyed for reasons and then replaced with a monument to Varian Wrynn.
Again, not exactly the argument you want to hand to Night Elf fans.
Nein mein brolein.
I’m vaguely educated on greek myths. I liked them more when I was in elementary and J.R. High than I do now. I only know what I know about norse myths due to Marvel’s Thor and later Neil Gaiman’s norse mythos book that a friend gifted me.
You do realize the park district was mostly human buildings with a moonwell at the center?
Also Lion’s rest is suppose to be Alliance themed. Not human one. Meaning it is suppose to honor every Alliance who died during Legion trying to protect Azeroth?
I am talking about Darkspear trolls and how they were homeless until Cata.
I just find it really funny how Deathwing destroying a quarter of the human capital got story forumed into a testament to the suffering of the Night Elves
There were Night Elves in Theramore too. Is that another sleight against Night Elves?
what picture, that we might forgive her, I know thats the most likely thing to happen you dont need to tell me, but sylvanas being forgiven has nothing to do with a park in stormwind
(plus those who can be met during question, although during my recent leveling in Classic, I can remember only about half a dozen quest lines from Teldrassil)
