Elitist abuse of casuals

Of course. You have no business teaching a kid to swim unless you are Michael Phelps.

Wrong. An appeal to authority is a fallacy because it assumes the authority is infallible.

Unless I am missing something, you did nothing wrong. You have nothing to apologize for. Consider yourself lucky for being out of that guild.

People are private, or anxious, or don’t like speaking in public. Nothing wrong with that. Also, play the game you want to play. There are other people who don’t like M+. Your guildies do not sound like nice people.

If you do decide to join another guild, get to know one or two players first and do your research on them.

This was clearly a very unpleasant experience for you. Perhaps traumatic, it’s not my place to say. But I don’t think you should be so self-critical.

It’s a public forum, you’re not accountable for your opinions any more than the next person. We’re not doing science here, and we’re not doing poetry. You should be able to see just from the contents of this thread that posts are often uninformed, trivial, argumentative, biased or some fun combination in between. If you are earnestly trying to contribute to discussion, you’re one of the good ones. But everyone is allowed a voice (until they break the rules or whatever).

As for my own opinions:

  • Elitists are a thing, but you can do difficult content without being an elitist
  • No one is a jerk just by the nature of the content they do
  • Your guild experience seems to have been terrible, but there are some great guilds out there if you decide to give it another shot

so to summarize this the op said stuff they shouldnt say about different parts of the game and then finally came to the realization that they shouldnt pass an opinion on something they dont know anything about.

i hope you learned something, op.

Too bad not a single verifiable definition supports your assumption.

It’s not the authority that is claimed to be right per se but the claim that appeals to the authority i.e.

" When writers or speakers use appeal to authority , they are claiming that something must be true because it is believed by someone who said to be an " authority " on the subject".

Belief is not the same as right and definitely not infallible.

Anything is possible here, you should know this.

I believe you.

i dont just believe you, i believe in you.

That.
And Im a bit confused why the OP edited and apologized.
The guild pushing to make him do content he didnt feel he was ready for is THEIR being elitist jerks, nothing wrong on his end.

This thread makes me feel like I’m the only person on the forums who has actually socialised with real people.

As ironic as it is coming from a person like me, you guys need help. Bad.

Well, in our defense, have you seen how many threads and posts get deleted or locked down and the posters suspended over BS reasons because some petulant kid didnt like what was posted and called 30 of his guild buddies into to mass flag it?

These are the people who ruin the community in this forum AND ruin it in the game…not us.

Why the edit/apology? Your knowledge of the game systems wasn’t even really the issue here, but the reaction by some crazy guild ‘mates’. By the way you’re typing it seems like those same people just got to you and insulted you until you just got fed up and agreed to get them off your back, sort of the actual problem.

I’ve seen guilds and people like these all the time, for evidence see the amount of elitists in this forum who get offended that somebody doesn’t like cesspool guilds like theirs. Your best bet is to just sever ties and /ignore them if they continue to harass you because you called out their BS. The sooner you leave and look back the sooner you realize they’re just a band of insane clowns not worth your emotional investment or time.
