Elite NPC Damage is Way Off (Plausible Evidence)

Yeah, I don’t know what to think of it anymore. Only thing that really comes to mind, would be some remnant data from the retail client. I am no software genius, so take that as pure speculation.

Oh I saw some crazy stuff, but i really wonder if some of it wasn’t because Shattered Hand was so unstable. All of it wouldn’t be exclusive to VC, but we had a run where everytime we would pull Smite the entire boat would come.

Yeah it’s total BS. I don’t care how many people try to say it was “always like that.” It wasn’t.

So you’re convinced that your memory is correct and no amount of math, facts or testing shown by Blizzard will convince you otherwise.

Cool.

Well, my memory of it, was that it was not a as easy as I am seeing on the streams, regarding mobs several levels above them. I’ve leveled a couple of alts through the content on the TBC patch, and don’t recall we could just take on red elite mobs that easily. People say we were just bad back then, but when one has played vanilla, then leveling in TBC should be a cakewalk, except it wasn’t regarding red elite mobs. Vanilla isn’t exactly rocket science when it comes to the low level dungeons. It usually was a matter of; “Don’t overpull, CC one or two, focus down skull and then in order of CC’s” LoS pulls wasn’t a foreign concept either.

Oh well. Think the verdict must be determined when we see some higher level dungeons and levels.

Math, “facts”, and testing done by people who’s level of competence is demonstrated by their dog eating the early data?

Having no problems in dungeons with mobs 4-5 levels above you? That didn’t happen in Vanilla.

Trying to solo an elite the same level as you was a tough battle for most classes.

Unless there was a big nerf to all content in 1.12 I never realized.

BTW…Blizzard only looked at the damage of one boss that many people said was accurate anyway.

Have they tested normal dungeon elites?

I dunno, I didn’t start leveling til after AQ40 was out and even in full pugs SM wasn’t much of an issue. The only thing I can remember causing problems was if you didn’t control runners and then a boss here or there ( the cleaving axe guy, name is slipping me atm). As long as you were methodical with it, it was pretty ho hum.

Here’s a video of a level 60 Warlock killing some mobs in SM GY:

You can see the Elite zombie hits him for 36. The Warlock has broken legs.

Here you can see Towelliee getting hit by the same mob for 53 and then 63, despite being in Defensive stance:

EDIT: It’s actually one of the non-Elite ghosts that hit the Warlock for 36. He takes a 64 hit here:

And those Ghosts are hitting Towelliee for 35-41, while he is in Battle stance right here:

How does the armor of a level 60 Warlock in what appears to be green-blue gear and broken legs compare to that of a level 30 Warrior in mail? The damage looks correct.

Thats key. Alot of what we remember differs from person to person. But there are some of us remaining who have been with vanilla from the beginning and knew how to play. Not all of us were pimply faced teens.

Now, i it not neccessarily about numbers being right because its probable that by the time 1.12 hit things were nerfed to poop. But the experience just isnt right as a representation of vanilla in its entirety.

How do you balance experience and accuracy? I feel like this is going to be a reoccurring thing as we progress in the beta and see different stages of testing. People will claim it’s too hard or too easy, a blue will confirm the matter via their reference server and someone will be happy and someone will be mad because it’s easier than they remember even if it’s accurate. It’s ruining their experience.

Should Blizzard fudge numbers to recreate experience or provide us with accuracy at the possibly cost of experience? Whatever that experience may be to you.

Then i guess you wont be playing, shame.

Blizzard shouldn’t do anything that strays too far from 1.12 if that is what they want to recreate. Its that simple.

Everthing else subjective. Some people who started earlier in vanilla want things to be harder. Those that started later think easier is better. But that being said taking the latest overall patch in its super nerfed state isnt indicative of the overall experience. And its really too bad.

I think he was referring to OP being wrong, not Blizz.

I know you’re trolling but my answer is not at all a shame. My generation had our time. There arent a whole lot of us left. Now its your generations turn as the core audience.

Been there done that. Its just too bad you guys will only get a fraction of the experience.

Water off my back. My friend.

I hope Blizzard can clarify the issues presented in this thread. The main issue now appears to be concerns over whether or not elite damage is correct. This should be an easy thing for Blizzard to text extensively in their reference client versus Beta. Maybe there is some hidden mitigation happening they aren’t aware of?

It’s easy enough to do with the videos I posted above. If someone wants to spend their time calculating that Warlock’s armor and mitigation based on his buffs, and then compare it to Towelliee; go for it.

I’m sure the goalposts will move to other dungeons and examples of mob damage until there’s nothing left.

My theory after playing the beta to cap and fighting against all sorts of different mobs: a very large number of different mobs aren’t using their abilities as often as they should.

I’m having the opposite experience. Ice Claw Bears in Dun Morough using their Ice Claw on CD is hilariously obliterating clueless level 6’s.

Fleshrippers in Westfall (14+ mob versions) are rending on CD.

Defias Pillagers/caster mobs are casting constantly. Defias Knuckledusters are uppercutting me like Street Fighter.

I don’t know about all mobs but the mobs that had abilities were the mobs I had to be most cautious about and they had a very predictable timetable for their ability use. (6-8 seconds)

Those are examples of mobs that are doing it right. On the other side of the equation: scorpids aren’t poisoning as much as they need to. Bazil Thredd never used his stun ability so far as I have seen. The goblins in the carpenter room only 1 stunned me out of all the mobs there (tank). Skeletal Horrors don’t fear. This is off the top of my head and I’ve bug reported them.
