Ele Shaman Changes (My ideas for a Rework)

Totem of Wealth: Baseline- Passive: You and Party/Raid members can 5% crit damage

Talent Changes
Mountains will fall Replaced By Elemental Blast. Elemental Blast now takes the place of Lava Burst or WLR (Choice Node)

Further beyond Replaced By Overwhelming Power- During Ascendance or DRE LB or EB is reduced by 1 second Or Double Lust (Choice Node)

Primordial Wave Replaced By Chain Harvest- Only does the damage doesn’t have the FS or Riptides

Rolling Magma Replaced by Power Within- Reduces the cast time of chain harvest by .5 secs (has 2 points) (up to 1 sec)

Splintered Elements/Primordial Surge Replaced by Elemental Conduit (Shadowlands Leggo) or Sky Breaker’s (Choice Node)

Magma Totem Moved to Cap Stone On bottom right Side. Magma Totem now hits up to 6 targets with FS. (Does A LOT MORE DAMAGE)
Shares with Choice Node. Frost Totem. Place a Summon Totem at a target Location that pulses Frost Damage to all enemies applying Frost Shock every second in a radius of 8 yards. 1 Min CD (DOES A LOT OF DAMAGE) (BOTH LAST 7 SECONDS)

Elemental Blast Replaced by Totem of lightning- Place a Summons a totem at the target location that pulses Lightning damage to all enemies in a 8 yard radius. 2 Min CD

Elemental Equilibrium Replaced with Charged Bolts. Each Crit by Chain Lightning Or Lightning Bolt Reduces the Cooldown of Totem of Lightning by .5 secs (2 Points) (up to 1 sec)

Primal Elementalist shares choice node with Elemental Master: Reduces the CD of FE/SE by 1 min.

Eye of the Storm only works with Earth Shock and Earthquake

EoGS only work with Earth Shock and Earthquake

Magma Chamber only works with Earth Shock and Earthquake

For what it’s worth, I’d like to see them add in or rework a choice node that would remove the ground target reticle from earthquake giving the choice to make earthquake function like earth shock and center on the target. Also, would love it if Primordial Wave was a wave and applied flame shock to all nearby targets. Right now, it’s more like Primordial squirt.

I want P wave gone all together

I hope that elemental is soon on the rework list as they are one of the last specs to have almost remained untouched this xpac and the last dps spec to not have a raid buff

Those are the most important imo.

I also dont like the idea of having to pick a talent to make mastery do it’s job on spenders

I want more lightning. Like a channeled AoE lightning or something. It’s the only class that uses lightning, yet we’re limited to a lot of fire that’s clunky to use unless every CD is aligned correctly. Also, our totems should be used all the time, not just as short CDs. I wanna be able to drop down 4 totems like we used to, and be able to reposition them at will with no CD.

I’ve lost all faith in ele TBH.

The devs clearly have a vision for this spec and it’s just the opposite of what I want.

If it were up to me I’d remove DRE, Lava surge and the talent that reduces the CD of primordial surge.

Lava surge has been the all consuming problem of ele for the entire DF expac. The moment lava burst is strong it just deletes every other ability on our bars. Removing lava surge just has us cast lava burst less. I’d keep prim wave the same so we still have those cool burst windows. Removing lava surge also makes ascendance a real CD again. The whole point of removing the CD on something is to let us spam it, what’s the point if we’re already spamming it?

with us casting lava burst less they could also buff it back up to its awesome WotLK numbers. Remember when lava burst was a massive crit bomb? probably not because they removed the CD and nerfed the hell out of it to compensate. Toss out lava surge and we can go back to those big lava bursts again. We get 250% crit damage but it never really feels like it.

I’d make LMT like a 30 second CD, it puts flame shock on 6 targets and does damage. Since we don’t have lava surge thats all it would be for. A totem for the totem class to use that does damage. You wouldn’t take it in ST and it would just be a CD to use, maybe put it on a choice node with searing flame totem for ST

However every ounce of effort put into these threads is wasted as the devs aren’t interested in hearing this. They know what they want and they do it, our opinions don’t seem to matter.

So far in the responses one person says to remove primordial wave. One says remove icefury. One says remove DRE and lava surge. A few more responses and we might turn into classic ele shaman.

we all have different ideas on what makes the spec fun to play, and what doesn’t. The thing we all seem to agree on is that it isn’t fun right now. What are your ideas if ours aren’t good to you?

This remove lava surge suggestion is new but people have been disliking icefury and p wave for forever.

These ideas are interesting. I could see getting rid of DRE and P wave. Lava Surge would be interesting and going back old school way like in Wotlk. I think the need to make both sides better for lightning and fire. Without so much filler talents.

Why not the class be good again not just your favorite playstyle…

I 100% agree, I’d love the class as a whole to get some QoL changes, but most specs in Modern wow have from Frost DK having Breath or Obliterate to Healers like Mistweaver with Clouded focus or Ancient teachings, Ele having Storm or Fire, both should be viable and present in all forms of content.

My biggest issue with current retail is they’ve implemented this whole new Talent Tree but it really just gives the illusion of choice rather the build flexibility.

I’m just saying I really do miss the Storm side of Ele which now is completely useless now going to be 2 seasons in a row.

For example a change I’d like to see, Icefury seems so clunky and actually hinders the fluidity of the spec, it already has a 30 sec cd, personally it should be instant cast, I think this change alone would help immensely for the rotation. While I know many want to see it go, I think Shamans as the masters of the elements should have a decent Frost Spell outside of Frost Shock. Just the cast time makes it insanely clunky to use.

Also making it instant cast isn’t going to sky rocket us to top dps, just smooth things out a little.

Exactly, Icefury and frostshock almost made me dislike ice as an element. There are so many potential cool ice spells they could come up with instead we get a cast that buffs our boring, instant cast, almost invisible frost shock. People have been asking for icefury to be removed since Shadowlands.

I just think currently, Icefury is very underwhelming, Visually it desperately needs an upgrade, but really a lot of our kit needs to be brought up to modern day WoW (Lightning Bolt, Ascendance and our Totems are in dire need of this) and from a Rotation perspective it’s just clunky and seems to stop the flow of gameplay.

I can sort of see from a Devs standpoint that Icefury is trying to bring Frost Shock into the rotation especially with Electrified Shock to give it a purpose outside of PvP but realistically it’s just creating clutter within the rotation due to its cast time.

Like I mentioned, Icefury is already on a 30 sec cooldown, I think an easier way to blend it into our rotation is simply making it instant cast, I think being able to Icefury on the move or to cast it on the back of a Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning instantly be a huge QoL especially in high movement fights and M+.

On the topic of QoL adjustments, Magma Chamber and Skybreakers Fiery Demise is great with the Fire build but bring little value for the Storm Build, if Icefury and Frost Shock (Electrified Shock) are pushed to have synergy within the Storm Build, they should have equivalent options through choice nodes.

Flash Freeze - Icefury and Frost Shock damage increases the damage of your next Earth Shock, Elemental Blast, or Earthquake by 6%, stacking up to 5 times. Choice node with Magma Chamber.

Skybreaker’s Fiery Demise - Flame Shock damage over time critical strikes reduce the cooldown of your Fire Elemental by 1 sec and Flame Shock has a 50% increased critical strike chance (automatically selected with Fire Elemental). Nature and Frost Spells reduces the cooldown of your Storm Elemental by 1 second (automatically selected with Storm Elemental).

The fire build is well known for Flame Shock and spreading it which greatly enhances Magma Chamber and Skybreakers Fiery Demise value as a talent choice, but as the Storm side its little to no value, this change may bring it inline for both builds to be viable in future. I say in future as our tier set moving into S4 is the same which greatly favours the fire Build.

Realistically the Storm Build doesn’t choose DRE or Acendance, but in return we get quicker Storm Eles (Flash of Lightning + updated Skybreakers) and easier larger Earthquakes and Ele Blast through Flash Freeze as the trade off.

If anything I’d like to see Elemental Equilibrium and Magma Chamber/Flash Freeze become 1 point nodes aswell, they are redundant passive abilities, it seems they are more just to soak up talent points rather then promoting build diversity. Have to mention Earthquake being cast on target rather then a reticle be a huge improvement aswell and once again help the fluidity of the spec as a whole.

I like the idea of instant Icefury. On top of that I think its needs to have a much cooler visual added. All the other spells look amazing but our Icefury and shocks are really lame. It just makes those spells feel less impactful then they are

In terms of Visual upgrades, I honestly can say Shaman as a whole needs to be brought up to date, I mean from core race totems, I believe only Draenei got an update on totems that already look dated I think it was back in MoP.

Really I’ll be here a while listing all spells. Fingers crossed TWW expansion brings a lot to Shamans.

But hopefully Blizzard makes some changes around Icefury making it feel better to use then how it is, it just needs more then what we currently have.

yep. i chose to main ele because i want to cast some lightning spell, but now im playing a worse version of fire mage. gj blizzard

Let’s hope June/July comes quick when the next expansion releases so we can go back to a preference of play style we can choose rather then being forced into one regardless…

That being said we still have no clue what hero talents will change for us aswell.

So a lot is up in the air for shamans as a whole.

I suggested a few things as well in a separate thread. I didn’t play the season in SL where chain harvest applied flame shock, but one of my suggestions was make chain lightning spread flame shock to all targets hit instead of liquid magma totem.

Additionally, change primordial wave to “searing totem”. Drop a totem that instantly casts a lava burst on all targets with flame shock. Can have all the same talents, impact of primordial wave, but it does what you want it to in one global as opposed to 2.

I have never understood why they’ve made it so hard to spread flame shocks. We have a 4 global ramp up for a 6+ pull- flame shock, liquid magma, primordial wave, flame shock, then start damage. Could be flame shock, chain lighting, instant lava burst all flame shocks.

Also DRE should be a maelstrom counter i.e. after spending 300 maelstrom your next lava burst triggers ascendance. Gives us a reason to use maelstrom and not cap even if it is to cast wet noodle earthquakes and earth shocks.
