I’m marketing my forum posts as a Nobel-Peace Prize winning novel, you wanna buy?
I’m pretty sure most people who play the game now follow BiS gear, essence, corruption and talent tree rows etc… so just based off that (and without any assumptions) won’t people also follow the BiS covenants?
Cause you’re operating on the assumptions that things are going to be perfectly balanced.
16 years of WoW history says no.
It’s definitely interesting to see what the relation is between the Arbiter and the Jailer, and why the Arbiter ‘reacting’ to you is important.
But the problem is that Blizzard can’t resist re-using the same trope as we are the centerpiece of the story for most of the Shadowlands.
This is great news actually. Picking a covenant is what I’m looking forward to most in SL right now.
Most people don’t actually.
Sorry, but that’s a made up thing in your head.
I’ve pugged enough to know. LOL
edit: Also, i’m not assuming things are going to be perfectly balanced. I’m just saying it isn’t going to be as drastic as you people are making it out to be. Not one bit.
Shamans and Paladins.
Not to be contrarian, truly, but they feel like modifiers of the specs, more than the class. I write this meaning that some covenant choices seem to really benefit one or two specs much more than the other(s).
Not saying it’s good or bad, but subclass, to me, would be abilities that generally benefit the entirety of the class, not just a specialization within it.
Again,I acknowledge the anecdotal and subjective matter in my post and I’m not passing it off as definitive. (adding this because I know these discussions can get intense, and that’s not my want.)
THey are not sub classes.
That is a line of they have fed people .
You will just be your class with some kind of movement buff or some kind of shield or personal refreshment potion servant.
I can see your point, but do you feel that having them faction locked made the game better? Or do you feel it was improved in TBC when they spread them to both factions?
Right but same ilvl Havoc DH vs Shadow Priest solo vision who’s gonno do it better? It’s possible to do it as an Spriest, but there’s always A > B. And I think that’s where a lot of people are coming from. Most people don’t want to be B.
Why aren’t they?
Everything about them screams “sub” class to me.
Care to explain?
It’s almost like we are still almost a full two months until release. Roughly 300 hours of business hours, if they’re not in any sort of crunch time. They’ve been making continual changes, large changes at that, at least to covenant abilities.
There are some of you that are just not going to be happy if you don’t get what you want, but you at least should acknowledge that a lot of people are going to be totally fine if Blizzard comes even remotely close to the mark on balancing.
Doesn’t matter.
Can both of them do the content if they so choose?
Necrolord is a PvP only ability for DK. Underwhelming damage for a gorefiends grasp that pulses? Night Fae is the best overall for almost all PvE situations unless you’re going BoS build for Frost. Then you want the RP of Venthyr. Bastion just exists. Objectively bad choices exits even if you refuse to believe it.
I guess it’s up to the individual. I refuse to touch it on my priest alt because I know I’m wasting my time when I can do it better on my DH alt.
Well, it’s sort of difficult to add sub-classes to the game, as we already had them. Mage is the class, fire mage is the sub class. In what way do covenants even come close to comparing to the existing sub classes - specializations?
Well, if I had to be honest, when they made them interchangeable in TBC, Seal of Blood for Blood Elf Paladins was pretty strong compared to the Draenei Shamans, especially since there weren’t many faction racials that benefited from Windfury like Orcs.
They both made the gameplay interesting. That barrier of entry actually made both classes more enticing and unique, so people actually gravitated to them just for the experience.
Those complaining about not having access to all covenant stuff when the whole point is you earn covenant stuff by becoming one of them seems opposite. Do you also complain about not having access to the entire talent tab? Or to all gear even though you haven’t earned it yet? Or all recipes?
Part if the fun is choosing your covenant then seeing what you’ll get as rewards unlock as you prove yourself with them. Seems wrong to want it all, unburdened by what’s supposed to be a really cool choice and concept.
Maybe, go with whichever covenant appeals to you then select powers based on that, instead of the other way around because a content creator or website told you what you should do.
Yeah, that’s true. And even if I come off dismissive of the incoming gameplay mechanics, etc, I am looking forward to seeing some new stuff and new takes on lore.
And on the topic of covenants, for what it’s worth, I have zero intentions to change covenants - that just seems to fit Fairlight. Maybe my rogue or DK (waaaay sidelined alts) would wander in search of power and less in search of comraderie and loyalty? Obviously, there are always RP exceptions here!
I kinda wish I could never join any covenant for the expansion.
That would be my meaningful choice =/
