Eggs and plants

To settle a discussion I’m having with a friend. Is there a plant or plants that grows eggs that can be cooked the same way as chicken eggs?

If serious? No. If joking? Also no. Closest you will get is a carton of “Egg-Beaters”. Not real egg that tastes like egg.

He’s serious…I’ve been a cook for over 22 years and have never heard of such a thing. He also thinks that an eggplant is his proof.

I dont think so, i think eggs come from animal… but if thats your attempt for a vegan egg , i think your out of luck

cooked the same way as chicken eggs? i mean, you can fry things like eggplants and plantains and whatnot. just don’t expect it to ever taste like a chicken egg, a flavor for which there is no real substitute.

Eggplant is a berry by botanical definition. So your friend may need some help. Unless they are on the spectrum like my nephew, and then you just humor them cause it hurts no one :slight_smile:

Don’t know why you would think it’s my attempt. I got hit up with the question from him and he was adamant about it. Just trying to see if I can get a wider knowledge base on it.

That said, and to my surprise you can get hard boiled eggs made from plants now.

So OP not so far off as it happens.

Potato can be boiled, fried, eaten raw. They both are oval and a little hard. And most people prefer it without the shell. c:

to be fair, lots of things are botanical berries that you wouldn’t necessarily consider as such. bell peppers, for example. raspberries, on the other hand, are not berries, but aggregate fruits.

Okay… I actually learned something today… wait cucumbers and melons are berries? That’s a huge and or weirdly shaped berry…
