So what’s the deal with GMs stealing names from active accounts? I have 2 characters on Sulfuras that were force name changed. One of them I didn’t care too much about because I was intending on making a rogue of the minority faction sometime in WotLK, but the other I’m pretty annoyed about. I thought names on active accounts (and yes, I am actively playing this account) were supposed to be safe?
On that same note, does that mean we’re good to make tickets to get GMs to take names from other people that are on characters that aren’t being played yet? Especially RIGHT BEFORE AN EXPANSION LAUNCH?
Note: this was not some kind of name release wave, they were taken in different weeks.
You’ve made 2 assumptions. One was covered in the OP, please read more than the title. Neither of them are inappropriate, not even in the slightest.
Edit: first assumption was deleted from post that was replied to, second still isn’t true, though due to the nature of the thread I can’t prove that since I’m trying to get a name back
I have two separate characters on Sulfuras that were placeholder characters because, early on, I thought I might enjoy playing there as my PvP realm option. The one I ultimately probably wasn’t going to use but never bothered deleting, so I don’t really care about it. The other was intended to be used, so I’m pretty annoyed about it being stolen.
I’m not seeing any indication that a Game Master has interacted with your account, Bank.
Had you logged into those characters since the merger for Sulfuras? My initial thought is that if not, any naming conflict may have gone to the first character with that name that logged in.
The character in question is (editing this out since I think you can still see it after edits, please correct me if I’m wrong). I think I logged in on it after I saw that the first character (which I didn’t care about) was renamed just to be safe. Are you able to confirm that?
Just to cover this real quick. That currently does not apply to Classic Era or Burning Crusade Classic.
Blizzard Customer Support will not release names at all for WoW Classic or Burning Crusade Classic, regardless of how long the account or character has been inactive.
The forums gives you a few minutes to edit your post, so a quick edit like you did there I can’t really see.
Can you give me a race/class/level as an identifier?
After cooling down a little and thinking it through (I discovered this when I woke up), you said that Sulfuras was one of the merged servers? If this name was taken by a character that was actively being used at the time of the merger, I’ll just let it slide and move on due to the nature of the situation. They probably got screwed out of their own name with the merger and I can sympathize with that. I’ll probably just consider a different PvP realm for the future alt or something.
Though I would like to know if that was the case, and if it was taken by a fresh character I still want it back.
Yes, it was the destination realm for a lot of realms.
Based on what I can see it looks like it was just a system conflict for the names. The characters that currently have the names look to have been native to Sulfuras, so any characters that transferred in, either manually or through the consolidation a few weeks ago, would be flagged for a name change.
Sorry, Bank. I completely understand the frustration and reaction when you thought the names were purposefully taken.
