Edit mode ok. why blow up decades old UI?

I don’t mind the edit mode… but i don’t understand why blizzard didn’t start everyone out with the layout we have had for a decade?

It makes more sense to start from a know layout, that we can manipulate to our liking a bit more. Yes there are addons out there that allow you to mix it up… but a lot of us have muscle memory for the old UI that’s older then our kids.
I dont get pushing this on us… the coming Xpac looks great… but i cant bring myself to edit everything to get to poor excuse for what i’m use too.
Why didn’t you start us old farts with the layout we have always known, and then allowed us to edit it from there? You can drop this new Cellphone app layout on the newbies

What’s different about the new layout? The bag and mini menu are in a different place, and the target frames are closer to the center of your screen. Other than that…it’s basically the same, just with a different skin.

No, it is not basically the same. The option to keep the old UI should have been given.

See the problem when you and others say ‘old UI’, you mean the old UI SKIN right? Cause otherwise there is no functionality loss or difference.

One example is you used to be able to right click on the chat window to unlock it. That is no longer an option. You now need to right click on it and click the edit option which highlights every movable frame on the screen.

Because the decades-old UI had the functionality of a centuries-old UI.

On my system, I have 3 high action bars in the middle of the screen with all the temporary stuff (like casting bars) in a big pile right in front of my character. With the character icon right in the way in the middle of the screen it feels like the UI is getting in my way rather than “being clean”

Not needed?

The old UI was and looked like it was developed in 2004. This was sorely needed. There’s a reason virtually no one played without UI addons.

what’s the issue with 2004? the purpose of a Ui has not changed since 2004 in any way. There’s a reason I never needed a UI addon.

I have no idea what this even means.

For the sake of a clean ui with no addons, I logged into the PTR and this was what it looked like out of the box:

Buttons being all over the place from my Live UI with addons notwithstanding, describe for me how that’s “unworkable.” :roll_eyes:

There is functionality loss.
Let’s start with years and in some cases close to two decades of muscle memory game play.
There are spells that are dropping to other bars that are hiding behind bars.
The in-game battle map (hold shift and hit M) is covering the bags and all icons on the lower right-hand side of the screen making them unusable. This map is mainly used for PVP. Some of us are only here for the PVP. This mini in game battle map is not moveable. I believe this map has been in game since launch. Or at least since 08.
You have to be in the edit menu to move the chat window.
Some of us have vision issues and can hardly see the things on the right side of the game. You might be surprised just how many legally blind people are playing.
There are a ton of disabled players that are having a hard enough time without having to spend hours trying to figure out how to configure the UI.
Never underestimate the size of the older player portion of the wow community who are struggling with this monstrosity. Blizzard has abandoned a huge portion of the wow community by not giving us the option of the old UI as a toggle. As a woman, I am already upset at their effort to erase women. But that is another conversation.

Well edit all you like, but it won’t save your action bar 1, action bar 2, and action bar 3, or where you move the chat box. I’ve disabled all add-ons. If you log out and log right back in. It is where they were when you started. It is a bug.

Agreed, that is why I said that that is another conversation. I was merely highlighting that I was already upset about that change but have stayed silent on the issue.

I see. you’re right. The new UI has some concerns and also Hong Kong is NOT China. I hope they let us move the vehicle UI as I’d like to add the extra bars in there. Deus Vult!

its nice that you can get away with such tiny icons, I need larger ones and by default the UI covers a much larger portion of the screen. Interestingly, before you make a change, the various bars (cast bar, encounter bar, extra abilities, etc.) will auto-stack up the screen but if you move the action bars they all fall to the bottom of the screen overlapping each other.

Couldn’t agree more, especially where the default bar is concerned. More to the point, if they were going to change it…well…bold move on such an iconic UI element…bold and stupid, but then why didn’t they make ANY attempt to make the new UI pleasant to look at? The new UI doesn’t fit the game aesthetically. It’s UGLY. It looks like a generic attempt at an addon UI. Considering the amount of money I’ve bled into this game, I honestly expect professional grade updates, not this.
