This line of thinking is illogical. I don’t think the same crowds are complaining about both.
I’ll use myself as an example. Loved titanforging/warforging. Why?
Because it was more common to get some sort of item upgrade. It made helping friends/guildies with lower content have the possibility of rewarding gear at your ilvl if you outgeared it. It made farming higher keys feel good because there was also the chance of those big TF’s and getting a minor upgrade. If you did a ton of higher keys you could compete on ilvl with mythic raiders.
Corruption sucks. It doesn’t do ANY of these things.
The drop rate is so low that there’s just no added feeling of excitement when looting. It doesn’t incentivize helping people in lower content because there’s no ilvl upgrades, so even if it drops at 455 ilvl, you’re still going to eventually need to farm it at 465. In fact I actively avoid lower content now because i’m scared i’ll finally get a decent corruption, but on a low ilvl piece. And I know that’s not how it works mathematically, but it still feels bad.
You can’t compete with raiders on ilvl. Even plebs doing heroic have quickly leapt 5-10ilvls ahead. This gap is closing as there’s more weekly chests and more groups doing 15’s etc. But it still meant the last few weeks have felt disgusting.
And lastly, eventually there will be no loot incentive to do m+ as we’ll all have the corruption setups we want, and higher ilvl gear than the dungeons can drop. Hoping for a socket on a 465 piece with a certain corruption? Yuckkkkk that 0.01% chance isn’t incentivizing anyone.
So what we have is much more poorly thought through than forging. They’ve produced a system that feels bad at the start for the majority of people, will feel bad at the end for everyone, and may feel “ok” for a short period in the middle after numerous balance patches, but before everyone’s decked out and there’s no realistically possible upgrades.
It just makes you wish they hired some brainpower.
Edit - they’ve missed their window on making the start of the patch feel good too. One of the next changes they’ll make will be increasing the drop chance on corrupted items, but it’s too late, boat sailed sorry. By the time they implement it most people won’t need the change. All of this was foreseeable and preventable, it’s like they do no risk assessment at all as a part of design.
