You remind me of Turtle fans. They go against established lore all the time as well.
I wonder where the Earthen in Deepholm fit into all this. They seemed to have personalities and were also located far away from any titan facilities. Why are they even there to begin with?
They were from Uldum:
Part of me wonders where the waygate that connected Uldum to Deepholm is located in Uldum.
I assume its just the Halls of Origination.
Sounds like the titans wouldnt mind having the Earthen there to help out. Now the bigger question is why these Earthen didnt suffer the same fate of powering down.
So they were. They still also seemed to have developed their own personalities. Maybe the “programming” naturally gives way to free will after enough time is spent isolated from titanic influence?
This is Blizzard. It won’t be addressed in game.
It will be addressed ten years alter in a novel… MAYBE.
When the Earthen die they have spirits, so they’re not necessarily robots They have directives and their personalities are reflected through such, along with the nature of their creation such as what kind of titanforged they are & what they’re made from.
Keep mind however, all the titanforged have their own personas from the moment they’re created — and although they’ll have clarity in what their purpose is, their edicts and have a path set before them:
- They can still have different opinions on how to handle such purposes & paths set before them.
- They can still detach themselves from the directive provided to them upon creation later onward and regardless have the will to choose their own path (Become “Defective” or “Unbound” as it were) – However such lore would indicate it would be seen as rare.
- Their personalities & what emotions they have (even if lacking in empathy or social adequate) – Can impact their path forward and divert them from doing what’s best for their directive, instead choosing what’s best for them or their own edicts / desires / ambitions
-
- Such as is seen with Odyn – Twisting other titanforged into undeath against their will (Albeit in his mind, he was doing it for their cause).
-
- or as was seen with Loken, who weaved lies & conspiracy to cover his murder of Thorim’s beloved and seized power for damage control; the deeper he went, the more chaotic his persona became, the more erratic his behavior was and the more diverted he was from the objectives of the keepers & the titanforged.
As we saw, for some titanforged there’s apparent ‘Failsafe’ constructs that are actually more robotic than sentient — To set out towards purging or making way of dissenters & those who unbind themselves from the titans will … Such would indicate that it’s not entirely unseen or unheard of
I mean that’s not to say they still had personalities & such
They’re just … “Fresh” and haphazardly made in a desperate situation lol
As I wrote above though, things are more complicated for them moving forward from when they’re initially created & brought into the world in the first place
Lore Speculation:
It’d be interesting if it was revealed they made titanforged by using elemental spirits and binding them to the forged beings they create … It’d give more detail into explaining how they have souls, why some are more elemental-aligned despite their directives and even the development of some of their personalities.
Only dwarves ever viewed them as “the good guys” Since Legion it’s becoming increasingly clear that like the Vorlons, or the Monolith Builders, the Titans have their own agenda, when it benefits mortal life, it’s a coincidence, not a matter of intent.
Which is a giant retcon in itself. Oh sorry a “revision” of long establish lore. Like if the titans didnt care about life and only cared about their agenda they would have just let the Demons destroy non-world soul planets.
Right now my current gripe is there is a big chance everyone in the titans pantheon will ne portrayed as “wrong/evil/whatever” except for Freya.
There’s no lore that established the motivation for the Titan’s being benevolent. It’s no different than the revelation that the Celestials in the Marvel Universe fostered the development of intelligent life for the sole reason that such life would fuel the birth of a new Celestial.
Though the exact ori-
gins of the chaotic universe remain unclear, it is clear that a race of power-
ful beings arose to bring order to the various worlds and ensure a safe future
for the beings that would follow in their footsteps.
The Titans, colossal, metallic-skinned gods from the far reaches of the cosmos,
came forward and set to work on the worlds they encountered. They shaped
the form of their worlds by raising mighty mountains and dredging out vast
seas. They breathed skies and raging atmospheres into being – all part of their
unfathomable, far-sighted plan to create order out of chaos. They even
empowered primitive races to tend to their works and maintain the integrity
of their respective worlds.
The Titans, ruled by an elite sect known as the Pantheon, brought order to a
hundred million worlds scattered throughout the Great Dark Beyond during
the first ages of creation. The benevolent Pantheon, seeking to safeguard their
structured worlds, was ever vigilant against the threat of attack from the vile,
extra-dimensional entities of the Twisting Nether. The Nether, an ethereal
dimension of chaotic magics that connected the myriad worlds of the universe
together, was home to an infinite number of malefic, demonic beings, who
sought only to destroy life and devour the energies of the living universe. The
> pure-hearted, altruistic Titans, unable to conceive of evil or wickedness in any
> form, struggled to find a way to end the demons’ constant threat.
You right while we didnt know there motives the story had painted them as “altruistic and purehearted”. Which is a far cry from what the story is trying to do now by making them manipulative and scheming.
The game largely did away with the titans being altruistic and pure hearted way back in Wrath.
When Alagalon tells us the titans would regularly bath worlds in the Makers Flames for less than what Azeroth was going through at the time and that the titans killed untold number of life forms throughout the galaxy
Did you forget? The sourcebook for Warcraft 3, where the Titans were introduced to the setting, literally called the Titan Pantheon “benevolent”.

A retcon, though the point where the Titans deemed a world beyond saving included “being consumed and controlled by sentient space Cthulhu cancer”.
That was an author’s opinion, most likely a Dwarven one. Because at the time, the Dwarves believed they were a favored creaion of the titans and worshipped them as gods.
Revelaions have changed that perception, especially those in Ulduar and Uldum when we find out that the Titans were ready to perform a Great Erase on Azeroth and we had to stop Alcagon from issuing the call to have it done. And that the Dwarves themselves were a product of Old God interference.
Everyone thought the Vorlons were benevolent as well. Turns out that Kosh was the big exception to the rest of his race in his fondness for the younger species.
What??? The warcraft manuals were not written in anyone opinion(thank the elements that type of storytelling wasnt being used by Blizzard at the time) but as a collection of statement of facts regarding the world, the units of Warcraft 3 and the history of the 4 playable factions.
Wild how you have to go back as far as barely canon manuals when newer lore clearly states otherwise
Dude, the events described in the Warcraft manual(as well as its flavor text about various units/buildings/characters) have for the most part remained the same.
As for newer lore, even Chronicles 1 goes and says the Titans swore to protect ALL life, not just life they created/molded.
and here they go manipulating and murdering again, damn shame they won’t keep there word
