We have been informed in this post that the only way to gain traction on an issue that we’re having is to post it in the Bug Report section of the forums.
There are over 140 responses on this post detailing the issues that we, as a community, are facing with a DX12 re-rendering issue. This issue locks down our computers and can take upwards of 30 seconds or more to load in textures and they do so, slowly.
Sometimes the game will even crash down into your Windows taskbar and then come back up with a blank white screen and take an additional 20-30 seconds to load in.
Often times when you load back in, all of your anti-aliasing settings have also disappeared, requiring a restart of the game.
Some people were experiencing this pre-11.2, but the majority of reports seem to have ramped up after 11.2 launched. All of these reports have been while TWW has been live.
This re-rendering bug can appear at the most random of times, but especially during:
- Transmog Station Usage
- Raiding
- PvP Battlegrounds
- Doing absolutely nothing in game at all, just entirely random
Many of us have tried:
- Fresh new install of Windows
- Fresh Install of World of Warcraft
- Scanning & Repairing Files
- Removal of all AddOns
- Updating our drivers, both AMD and Nvidia
- Rolling back drivers
- Modifying settings
- Changing to DX11 resolves the issue, but also incurs framerate drops and lag
We, of course, would like to see some kind of acknowledgement that this issue exists and that the devs/QA team will look into it. It’s making the game nearly unplayable for some of us.

For me, that only solved it temporarily. After a few days, I started having freezes again even while using DirectX11.

Yeah, for some it continues going, others it seems to resolve it.
There’s not a lot of cohesiveness in this situation, it seems. It is just completely random, bizarre, and it spans across all drivers, etc.

These dumb freezes have been a thing since the Undermine patch, so we’re two seasons already dealing with this garbage.

I still have the DX12 transmog crash every time I try to xmog my character, look at the Transmogs tab on the WoW store (even from main menu before loading into the game) and every time I open the appearance tab. If i leave any of those 3 open, every time the reloading screen gets back to reloading my player model the crash / reload loops again… about 5 times of leaving it on crash loop looking at any form of transmog/appearance tab I get actual crash to desktop with memory could not be read.
Changing to DX11 is NOT a fix it is hiding from the problem. DX11 is lower graphics fidelity and lower performance than DX12. We shouldn’t have to go back to 2013 DX11 because Blizzard can’t be bothered fixing the redrawing of player model crashing DX12. DX12 launched in 2014 this isn’t some niche cutting edge modern issue.

Ok so i ran into this and people are reporting its working, but i just dont get exactly how im meant to do any of it:

Im just not good with the computer language, i need step by step guides for this.
Giving this a go. Even if it doesn’t fix this particular problem, it may fix some other problems I’ve been having, like slowness when playing videos in Firefox/Chrome, etc.
I tried that fix and no luck, pretty sure I did it correctly too. Thorn - I’d just ask chatgpt how to perform the Fix, thats how I learned. Basically go to registry, find the DWM folder (I did this for all DWM folders and still no luck) and then right click DWM → add key, use the line of code he gave and thats it. By default its set to 0 which is the value u want it set as.
I’m about done troubleshooting this re-frame / freeze frame issues, legit 10hr into troubleshooting. GG Blizzard - great model of having customers troubleshoot customer related issues. Will gladly give Runescape my 30$ / month now

Sadly, this did not work for me, either. I was pretty bummed, hoping that it would fix it.
So far, I’ve found no fixes for this anywhere. I see plenty of threads, even dating back to 2023 on this issue. Back in 2023, a Blue responded a few times, but inevitably stopped responding to the people in the thread, and it seems that everyone just gave up. I’ve also seen threads in the EU forums as well.
I can’t believe that this has been going on so long, and that Blizz has not addressed this issue.

i also fixed it by swapping to DX11, but my FPS is way higher on DX12 so blizz please fix this soon if you can lol

Came to this post hoping someone would acknowledge the issue and provide an update on a fix. It’s been going on since the Visions patch went live. No answers, just green posts with boiler plate copy paste word salad. Same thing on the EU forums and their tech support thread is larger than the US one.

Yeah, I’ve been monitoring multiple posts about this both on US and EU side. Unfortunately, on US side, our Tech Support channel is unmanned by Blizz entirely. It’s only user-based. So I made this thread in Bug Report, because apparently this is where QA/Dev live, but still no response from them.
The fact that this is going on in both regions and there still hasn’t been an acknowledgement from Blizz is really frustrating and disheartening.
My sister-in-law keeps having this happen when she’s tanking raids and stuff. It almost always happens when we’re accessing TMog stations, I even have it on the welcome screen frequently.
We need some kind of acknowledgement from Blizz, and we’ve needed it for quite a while.

It’s absolutely embarrassing that they have not acknowledged a problem yet. All we want is an acknowledgement that there is an issue, and that they’ll be working on addressing it. Just happened to me earlier and I’ve just had enough. I’m not preordering Midnight until this is fixed. I’m sure my life would be better off anyway.

Still happens constantly, September 2025

For me it happenes non stop as soon as I log in and start playing. The bug happens when ever I open up collections and group finder. The game ever since the most recent update made this bug worse and unplayable for me.

For me, this has generally been happening once per instance of me opening the game client and exclusively while mousing over item windows be they on vendors, looted enemies, or my inventory.
It’s really strange how it varies in frequency as well as where it occurs for different people, but I’ve yet to detect any rhyme or reason for it past the trigger condition.

Happens almost every time I fight Reshanor. And sometimes upon zoning into Tazavesh. Feels like some kind of memory leak.

The problem seems to have gotten worse since yesterday. I’m experiencing freezes and the screen “refreshes” almost all the time. So far, no developer has spoken out about the issue.
