Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie

The Mazes are Infinitely expanding versions of the general area of the person Mazed by the Lady of Pain.

A Lava Room becomes an Infinite Lava Room, a Boiler Room becomes an Infinite Boiler Room, a Freezer Room becomes an Infinite Freezer Room, an Ice Cave becomes an Infinite Ice Cave, a Garden becomes an Infinite Garden, a Castle becomes an Infinite Castle, etc.

Your idea of a self-proclaimed “Disciple” of the Lady of Pain does sound like a good idea. Why not have the guys selling Keys to various Mazes take advantage of such a self-proclaimed “Disciple” to make more self-proclaimed “Disciples” to make Mazes in different interesting Locales in Sigil.

It’s dnd and a fantasy movie so I am naturally gonna watch it.
However, I do not have high hopes for it.
It looks like any other movie released these past few years.
So it really comes down to the writing and I hope they have had some dnd GMs on the team.
I just pray it’s not super woke and some characters always roll “natural” 1’s where others roll “natural” 20’s the entire time.

I can forgive a lot of a movie’s flaws if it at least has fun. And from what I’ve seen of the D&D movie, they’re having fun. Definitely plan to go see it.

Probably gonna be another lame, low budget, corny/lame joke filled, cash grab movie.

It will be exactly decent

So far Rotten Tomatoes (Film Review site) has given this film: Tomatometer 89%/100. And
Audience Score 86%/100. IGN 7/10. and IMDb 10/10. So I would guess that the movie is fairly good. I will wait until I can stream it. But yeah I will watch it.

That’s really sus since it’s not coming out for another 10 days.

I’ve seen studios do that before. Give fake reviews for their own movie then as soon as real audiences see it, it plummets down to like 40% (or less.)

But! I’m hope I’m wrong and it’s a fantastic movie for you guys d(^.^)z

I am kinda hyped up for this film. Partly because of the trailers. And partly because of a real big need for a new fantasy film. I have not seen the film myself yet so I’m going to post a film review video made by a film reviewer I respect:

And here is a video of a D&D group reaction to the trailer:

Many times in the past a movie has been so hyped up, only to disappoint upon release. So I’m reserving judgement until I actually see this film. But I hope it is at least entertaining.

I watched this during it’s original run and loved it. Tried watching it again recently and just hated all the characters. Felicia Day can’t really act well and the only likable character is the bald guild leader.

Saw this last Sunday. As a long time TTRPG player and GM/DM (still have a 5e campaign running now) I enjoyed it. I’m not gonna over sell it , it’s not epic like LotR hit me the first time, but it’s a movie worth seeing.

Lots of humor, if you know or play D&D you’ll enjoy all the references and get more out of subtle things they threw in there.

For instance remember the old 80s cartoon for d&d? You will spot a cameo of those characters in the film.

A great light hearted part is when they are using the spell Speak with the dead.

And there’s several other things for fellow players to pick up on.

Saw it last Saturday. It was mid at best. I am so over Marvel style quippy dialogue, you know where the characters all act like they hate each other, but actually don’t cause it’s always snide comments for a laugh. Hugh Grant was the best actor in the movie and that’s the first time I have ever said that in my life. Also, the thing at the beginning was so cringe I nearly walked out. But since I am a hero. I stayed.

As someone who never played it, the movie looks super goofy. Is it supposed to be goofy?

Most likely. In-person D&D sessions (or any RPG sessions for that matter) can and do run the whole gamut of nerdy goofiness. I haven’t seen the movie myself, but in the trailers it looked like they were trying to capture that feeling.

Certainly, a lot of people have commented that their old tabletop gangs would have screwed up the “five questions” scene just as thoroughly. All it takes is one joker and a DM/GM willing to play along with said joker to completely derail a session.

I was lookin at Rotten Tomatoes and the score from the audience is very good! So I think i want to see it now.

Writers like to have their Plots on Rails so someone who derails a Plot makes the Universe more real.

Video Game RPGs do not have means to throw the Plot “Off the Rails” from what I’ve seen and their Writers do not permit anything that goes against the Plot in their head.

For a Plot to go “Off the Rails” and become living there needs to be more than one Writer clashing with a Writer willing to include the Writer’s additions into the Plot.

WoW and Star Wars’s failings in story telling is due to all the Writers being Railroading DMs rather than DMs that go with the flow and examine every entry added to the Work to make sure the story flows together nicely.

The DMs of Star Wars has only one Writer that goes with the flow and that is Dave Filoni and only as far as the Movies and his TV Shows go. He ignores the Comics and Novels railroading everything to make sure the TV Shows only follow the Movies and nothing else.

Incidentally if I were to write a D&D Cartoon Show I would call in Knaak writer of the Dragonlance Trilogy as a sub-writer for me to derail.

First I would encourage him to write an Wild Magic Well being turned into a girl by a powerful Mage right as the Bad Guy is about to claim it then while Knaak and the Mage are high off their grand scheme being pulled off have the Bad Guy simply pull out a vial of Raw Magic and have him dump it directly on the Leyline restoring the Wild Magic Well which will kill him due to overwhelming him with Wild Magic.

The Wild Magic Well Girl will notice her sibling’s birth and become a Living Spell Psionic.

FWIW i saw this movie today and rate it a solid 8/10. It’s just tough to find a well-done fantasy movie that has a good story, acting/graphics, and quirky humor, but this one delivers. Entertainment worth the matinee ticket price.

Unfortunately, this film is box office bomb.

If so i think it was advertised poorly. I didn’t want to see it at first, based solely on the teaser I saw a month or so ago.

That what everyone was saying, no one knew this film was coming.

Well I finally got to see this film “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.” Solid 8/10

Here’s my opinion. I was hoping that this film was a good representation of Dungeons and Dragons gaming. It was. I was also hoping that in general it was a well made movie in the genre of Fantasy. It was. I was hoping it reflected the experience of an RPG. It does.

Taking everything into consideration I will report that this film had me entertained from beginning to end. It left me hoping that they make a sequel as good as this in the future.

And yes, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie will be going into my library of good fantasy films.

To all you Dungeons and Dragons players out there, please do yourselves a favor and go see this film. It has been released for online streaming. For everyone else, it’s a fun romp through a fantasy realm.
