Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie

As a Wow player and a Fantasy Genre Fan. I’m super excited for the new film being released this March 31st. The World of Warcraft movie was good in my opinion. But I always hope for more new fantasy films.

What better than the film based on the game that started most of us on the RPG gaming path!

What are your expectations for “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” Movie?

In case you did not know about this new fantasy film. I am placing this video trailer for the purpose of news and discussion:

Now that this film is released. If you have seen it, your personal review would be appreciated. Spoiler free please. Thank you.

Edit to copy-add my own short review from May 2, 2023:
Well I finally got to see this film “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.” Solid 8/10

Here’s my opinion. I was hoping that this film was a good representation of Dungeons and Dragons gaming. It was. I was also hoping that in general it was a well made movie in the genre of Fantasy. It was. I was hoping it reflected the experience of an RPG. It does.

Taking everything into consideration I will report that this film had me entertained from beginning to end. It left me hoping that they make a sequel as good as this in the future.

And yes, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie will be going into my library of good fantasy films.

To all you Dungeons and Dragons players out there, please do yourselves a favor and go see this film. It has been released for online streaming. For everyone else, it’s a fun romp through a fantasy realm.

Previews looks pretty cool, and sorta funny.

Brings back memories of pen and paper D&D.

Gelatinous Cube, living treasure chest (forget name), Owlbear, etc.

Looks good to me.

As soon as it streams, I’ll check it out, for sure.

Looking forward to it, but I don’t think there’s any movie slated for release in 2023 that would motivate me to go to a cinema.

I have a 55" 4K Roku with a nice soundbar and over the pandemic I realized that the theater experience isn’t really something I need or even want. I’ll just wait for stuff to hit a streaming service and be quite happy to enjoy it the comfort of my own home (my wife’s popcorn is better and we can pause as needed).

To reiterate, the D&D flick does look good!

Haven’t been paying much attention to it beyond a few snippets about how the directors or some such behind it love emasculating their male characters.
Not much hope for it, personally, but what else is new in this riven age.

From the trailer the film looks like it has a decent budget. The actors appear to play their characters believably. Looks like it has action, mystery, comedy. My guess is that it has enough of everything that makes a fantasy film enjoyable.

Looks like garbage similar to alot of garbage that has come out recently.

It will probably be supported by a bunch of people who have no intention of going to see it, it will bomb financially, then everyone will look to blame someone for losing all that money.

Current year, same as the last year.

I really only care about the adorable fat dragon

if I want DnD stuff I just go watch Legend of Vox Machina

Just curious; have you watched “The Guild” with Felicia Day? If so, what did you think of it?

What makes a fantasy movie good or bad in your estimate? Could you be more specific please?

I have not. Felicia doesn’t really grab my attention so I go focus on other things.

Was just fun to watch Vox Machina and the whole “Door” sequence animated.

For context for non critical role folks. While trying to get into a church, the dice just REFUSED to let them get through the door. It was a legendary moment and so of course it got animated

Can’t quite share the animated one because of the extra swearing.

This is peak DnD for me lol

got to love grog
when he gets a beard lol

I’d have a similar reaction honestly. Just trans man squees of joy. ( me, not Grog )

grog the best friend you can ask for

I remember they are called Mimic in Ultima.

I’ll definitely watch it at some point, I foresee a lot of complaints about it not being super-gritty or whatever though.

Just like actual dnd where someone wants to be a edgy murder hobo and the rest of the party has other ideas lol

In a world of edgy murder-hobos, always strive to be the spite-clown.

i murder hobo in skyrim
nice looking armor f5 and see if the stats are good if not f9

My dnd group is all going to see it together.

I played a ton of second edition and a decent amount of 3rd edition D&D. I play this game.

From the beginning I have only seen the “fantasy” worlds as building blocks I can use to create things greater. I wouldn’t watch a D&D movie anymore than I’d read a D&D book. I’ve done that once or twice and that was quite enough to throw me off fantasy entirely. I mean I liked LotR until the movies made it all look dumb. I play this game because it plays well, but I don’t look to it for lore at all. If it had no lore and still played the same I’d be at exactly the same place.

Pretty people vs ugly people as “good vs evil” is pretty danged gross in my estimation. And even when you try to subvert that like warcraft has done, you’re still engaging in it.

But I’m a sci-fi mofo and wouldn’t read fantasy beyond Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath by HP Lovecraft, even if I was forced.
