Unfortunately, people used their role as tank/healer to prevent group progress and get a penalty-free kick in the past, do that is not a real solution.
I was in a leveling dungeon on an alt the other day in The Rookery and our tank walked down the stairs and pulled the packs off to the side, instead of run straight and jump down to deal with the pack before clicking the orb and freeing the flightpath/mount part.
Someone immediately tried to vote kick them “for being lost already”. The vote kick failed, but it still made me lol that people care that much about trivial content that we breeze through.
Instead of tell the player they can skip that stuff so they know for next time, their first instinct was to try and have them removed for a minor inconvenience. People take themselves and the game far too seriously.
so people who want to leave a terrible dungeon run can just afk until they get kicked, so no penalty? i don’t think that will help.
And they’re all stupid for wanting a blanket one size fits all approach. I prefer to only pay attention to people with a modicum of common sense. Like the OP of that thread for example.
But they are there, and you literally just said no one wanted it.
Now listen here panda, don’t make me get out the shaving kit.
uh oh, it’s getting spicy around here!
I ran each dungeon with the AI followers once before I queued into groups. You can go at your own pace, take your time, it’s great for learning.
To learn the dungeon?
If you don’t pull the DPS and die at every boss near the beginning you are most likely to be kicked, maybe practice the mechanics in a followers dungeon.
To learn a class?
Not wise to learn a class in a live group would be nice if people knew their class before entering.
To learn a spec?
Learning to heal and tank would be more ideal in a followers dungeon or with up to 3 friends so you don’t get the boot in a live group mix.
You can go to your Garrison to practice DPS, healing and tanking in Proving grounds.
Speak to Warmaster Zog (Horde) / Lieutenant Thorn (Alliance) in your faction Garrison.
The deserter is there so you don’t wind up pairing with the same group.
I think that’s mostly for not instances where you get kicked from group
Let’s not forget human nature and how eager many people are to give others the deserter debuff. I bet kick votes have increased by a factor of 100 now that people know they can kick people and give them a debuff on top of kicking them.
Clearly blizz feels that player misery will maximize shareholder profit.
So…I queued for a random TWW dungeon to learn. Got killed because I didn’t know the mechanics. Got no rez from the healer, so I released, started to run back to the group, and boom…got kicked from the group. So far not really a problem, I’ve come the expect this kind of childishness from the WoW community. But then I got flagged with a deserter debuff!! Blizzard, get your act together, you’ve been doing this for 20 years and you can’t get this simple thing right? Guess I’ll go back to playing solo content. No wonder they’re focusing so much on that now, they don’t know how to do multi-player.
youre one of a long list of complaints since TWW dropped about bogus kicks and trashy player behavior.
theyre not REAL MMO players…they just play one on TV.
Ya the 30 min deserter debuff serves no purpose but to agitate people
It serves a purpose, it dissaudes people dropping from groups when the boss they’re farming doesn’t drop the loot they want, or similar.

Try doing it as a follower dungeon. They are designed to help people learn. So far I have not been kicked from follower dungeon once.
What they wanted was a scaling punishment.
- first exit of the day, no timout…second exit 10 minutes…+10 minutes for each consecutive exit. That way if you just get kicked once, its no deal at all…a second kick is still only 10 minutes…I doubt many are being kicked a lot per day other than trolls causing problems…and this increasing punishment would slow them down because it needs also to be account wide so they cant get into dungeons again on alts to keep trolling.
- 6 hour CD on vote participation. If one is kicking more than once per 6 hours, one is probably the common denominator. If its 6 hours its gonna make them be more likely to save it for a REAL problem player.
ive a feeling that anyone against that would likely be one of the ones kicking others for no good reason and upset their trolling tool was taken away.
lol i got kicked today for being dc for no more than 20 secs. was glad to go to bc it was a night mare when i replaced the other healer lol
they killed boss as soon as i logged back and got a piece of gear so 30 mins well worth. i just go play another char or chill when it happens.
Wouldn’t moving the trinket drop to the last boss have fixed the issue without messing with everyone else?
I joined a lfr that just downed the first boss. Q’d for the instance again after clearing the last two boss’s. Downed first boss, and I left, since I’ve already done the last two and you get NOTHING for staying. And BOOM, I was flagged as a deserter, and couldn’t do any more group dungeons or raids for 30 mins.
Makes me want to take this game off my HD!
Please fix your product blizzard!
I dont think I have ever seen anyone kicked from a N/H dungeon unless they were straight up AFK and not moving for 5+ minutes.
