Dungeon Deserter

Hey everyone,
I’ve never posted here but want some feedback on my situation.
I have noticed and spoken with some players over the last couple of days that TimeWalking Classic Dungeons scaling is in a sorry state—well, for tanks at least. I played all the classes except for DH and Warrior because I already got them to max through DPS, but after hitting 71, they become paper thin and struggle to maintain treat (not so much my druid).
Anyway, I was on my Monk, and after a single wipe 2 people left the group. I figured to heck with this, said my goodbyes to the remaining 2, and left. And got Dungeon Deserter debuff… wtf!!! Why.
So I made this thread to ask if anyone else thinks it’s ridiculous. To add to the nonsense, my druid yesterday (who is now 80) I jumped on and was rusty in the first dungeon and after a single wipe I was kicked from the group… AND GOT DESERTER… that’s just foul.
Thoughts?

Dungeon deserter debuff is a blanket debuff given out for leaving groups early.
Whether thats because the player DC’d, was kicked, or left.

While they COULD change it so that being kicked doesn’t give the dungeon deserter debuff, that is work and Blizzard is afraid of work.
That being said, there is no real way for the devs/game to know if a player kick was legitimate (ie griefing or trolling the group) or if it was because the group wanted to kick for another reason.

The kick function can also be abused in the way of selling runs and short queues.

yes. you got the debuff because you left.

it didnt use to give it when you got kicked. you don’t want to see what that lead to. it was actively made to work on kick for a good reason. We abused it.

Agreed.
I join as Boomkin, already in progress TW classic… They on end boss, wiped before I joined. Wiped with me at endboss. Respawned at entrance. Run back… wiped again. I left.
I got 30 min deserter.

I chose to take the debuff and not further aggrivate my carpal tunnel with running to the end from the beginning.

I had made my own thread as well, just the other day, and moments ago, saw your post here.
Solidarity. I think this 30 min not going away after first boss kill… is overkill.

they JUST added it like a month ago - at player request.

Looking like it was a bad idea with how fast and experienced players are now abusing it to remove and grief new and slower players. Those new players aren’t coming to the forums. They just get mad, quit, and never come back. They need to revert this change.

but the original problem got fixed.

Are you saying the playerbase was wrong to ask for this? Careful, there. Thin ice…

The original problem was players holding groups hostage until they got kicked. The solution was not a blanket punishment that can be abused by players to grief others. The solution was to take action and punish the players who were holding groups hostage. That was the fix.

If the majority of players had these issues in Mythic dungeons, enable the punishment on Mythic dungeons only. It’s hitting new players doing Leveling dungeons and Timewalking the most now.

why cant they take action now against players griefing others?

they implemented it in a poor and generic way, but this is afterall a player-driven problem.

Because until they update their dungeon kicking policy, they don’t have an enforceable punishment for this type of griefing, nor a way to report it. They did for the other though.

Players would just go afk. Do you really think Blizzard could start banning people for taking a toilet break, etc?

Deserter exists because it’s the best way to fix the problem they’ve found so far. No game company has the resources to put every player who AFKs on trial.

If they’re legitimately afk, then vote kicking is fine. You can easily tell if a player is holding a group hostage or not. You’re coming up with bogus excuses to make it seem like this is a good thing. It is absolutely NOT.

Billion dollar company with one of the world’s largest player bases. It’s also a live service MMO. They better have the resources to manage their game or they fail their players.

This whole talk of PUNISHMENT PUNISHMENT, its honestly childish. We are adults. If you get kicked that’s the dam punishment. Q again and try again. TO GET KICKED BECAUSE OF A THROWN UP VOTE AND PEOPLE DONT CARE AND SAY YES… and then I have 30 mins taken away from me in my limited playtime, because I have a job and a life outside of Azeroth, is absurd.
After it happened I said to myself, well lets try some follower dungeons in the meantime… I CANT EVEN ! FOR A FOLLOWER all SOLO content dungeon.
This is too far and pathetic on Blizzard.

If you dip because you don’t like the dungeon, yea jerk move give a 20 min timer.

If you are kicked, THERE SHOULD BE NO TIMER. Your punishment was being voted off the Island…

If you leave after first boss because… idk you gotta poo… 10 min, and the system prioritizes getting a replacement.

It’s a terrible community. No matter what Blizzard puts in, players abuse it. It’s a cesspool that’s festered over the years and Blizzard just recently started trying to clean it up, but forgot they need manpower for that. Instead they add in these types of automated systems which are then… abused again by the same players that have constantly abused every automated report/vote system in the game.

Sorry that people are crappy.

the “orignal problem” was dps whining and moaning about people queueing for Ara Kara for that overpowered trinket and then leaving when it didnt drop.

They could have SOLVED this original problem by balancing the other trinkets, nerfing that trinket or HELL, MOVING IT TO THE LAST BOSS??

Instead they just went overwatch-style and put in more punishments.
People on here need to quit demanding that we get punished when something is done you dont like. Just leave if you dont like how the group is going but dont punish us for it.

that moves the problem out of sight by concealing the symptoms. it’d come back next trinket.

There is no reason for dungeon deserter to exist. It doesn’t matter if someone leaves your group and you shouldn’t get a 30 min debuff for being kicked. It’s a game and it takes like 5 seconds to get a replacement if someone leaves. Anyone who gets upset about someone leaving their queued content dungeon is a moron.

I agree this is dumb, and probably an oversight. Deserter debuff shouldn’t prevent you from entering follower dungeons.

It takes more than 5 seconds, and we already know what happens when there is no deserter debuff.

When you random queued into oculus in WOTLK, 15 tanks would join and then instantly leave, one after another. This could go on for 10 minutes or more.

If there was no deserter debuff, it would just make the longer/more annoying dungeons impossible to complete. Why would anyone stay when they can instantly queue into a different dungeon?

This is why the deserter debuff exists. There’s a very good reason for it, you just don’t know what you are talking about, quite frankly.

This is particularly irritating on single-fight groups such as HH. Just tried to heal a HH fight, super squishy tank, obv not prepared - couldn’t keep him up. Left after two wipes, deserter debuff. I can’t wait 30 mins to redo the dungeon and now I’m out a shot at the mount today because of it.

Blizz, this needs some editing. I get the reason it’s there but forcing repair bills on a group that’s clearly not capable isn’t fair on players.
