Dual spec is dumb

It never should have been added. It’s called a specialization for a reason.

And to all those people who are going to respond with the same, tired, pithy little statement ‘It’s hardly a specialization when i can just talk to an npc and pay 50 gold to change it!!’ Ok then go ahead and do that then instead of demanding changes to the game.

Dual spec is a bad idea because now the expectation in the hardcore guilds, and trickling down even to the average guilds, is that you WILL play 2 specs according to the needs of the raid. Oh this boss seems like it did a little too much raid damage? Change a couple dps to healers. Oh this boss has too many loose mobs? Change a couple dps to tanks. Oh this boss doesn’t have much to heal? Change a couple healers to dps.

Not to mention the fact that dual spec gives people an excuse to call you an a-hole for not tanking their dungeon when you are playing a boomkin, or ret paladin, or fury warrior, etc.

Dual spec was just another ‘quality of life’ change added in wotlk like LFD that actually just made the game worse by appealing to the lowest common denominator players and it should NOT ever be added in tbc.

Yeah. Wotlk was the beginning of the end.

Wrath is totally carried by Arthas’ story and the Scourge having cool as heck aesthetics. Dungeons were linear hallways of brain dead easy, even more so than the vanilla dungeons people have been complaining about as being too easy for the past two years. If anything leveling in Classic was nicer because you didn’t need dual spec to tank most stuff, just put a shield on.

We do walk in amd change specs. So what is the point in saying ok go do that. We are. We dont want to have to do that. Durrr

The hardcore guilds are not trickling down. Its common sense. I am in a very relaxed guuld and we send our pally tank off to respec for a 3rd healer on nightbane every week. Just to make the fight a little easier. The ability is there. We have access to it and we use it.

We think it is annoying to have to stop and wait though. That is the only issue. Waiting. Specs dont mean crap. If they did not allow spec changes and ppl were asking for them then you have an argument. But they are not asking for that.

We are asking to take the time to change easier. Thats it. Anything else you bring up doesnt mean anything and you are wasting your words. Specs do not mean anything in wow. Deal with it.

So you cant specialize in more than 1 thing?

It would be nice to not have to shell out 100 gold at least once a week in order to be optimized for PvP.

In how many fields are you a specialist IRL? Most ppl barely manage one.

2 but regardless im simply saying its not impossible for it to make sense and it makes more sense in a video game too. I can tank and DPS in MMORPGs pretty well too its not hard.

yea it would also be ‘nice’ to not have to go to the dungeon, I wish blizzard would just be ‘nice’ and give us the dungeon finder.

So tired of being INCONVENIENCED and having to PLAY the game. When i get home from work I just want to open up my loot crate and get insert unmemorable epic item, not have to do all this annoying ‘gameplay’.

I’m obviously being sarcastic but hear me out: if you don’t want to play the game just dont play it. Please stop asking for the game to be lessened. Let others enjoy the game for what it was.

So to be clear…Dual spec is bad because you can’t deal with social pressure?

Dual spec isn’t alive.

It doesn’t think at all, so, of course it’s dumb.

dual spec is bad for a host of reasons, social pressure included. Letting everyone change specs at will just further homogenizes the game and is more likely to lend to people playing roles that they normally would not. Not to mention dual spec removes an important gold sink in an economy where there is constant inflation. It also removes one of the rewards of achieving lots of gold in wow which is you can respec without having to worry about whether u can buy consumes or equipment or afford repairs etc.

Yep…it rewards those who buy Gold.

Gold buying is a completely separate issue that could have been resolved with even the slightest bit of competence and effort.

I don’t see how changing your spec is game breaking in any way, heck in FF14 you can have every job (spec) on one character and swap at will.

I don’t see how limiting respecs makes the game better :man_shrugging:

In later iterations of the game i think it makes sense. As your character levels up he/she becomes more powerful and knowledgeable of their class and can learn more than one “specialization”. Of course, the cap being 60 now kinda defeats that point…but i thought it was a good move back in the day.

We literally never did this in Wrath, when Dual Spec was implemented. We just changed healing assignments. Or had sPriests, Owls, or Ele Shamans off heal.

The guild I’m in now literally never did this in Classic either. We just changed healing assignments. Or, surprise, had sPriests, Owls, or the n00b Ret (dats me!) off heal.
((We had dedicated summon locks outside of BWL, AQ40, and later Naxx. We could easily port to IF or have the druids Moonglade-hearth and have them back in the instance in about 5 minutes. Still never did it.))

Wow. I really recommend you read exactly what you wrote. Apply it to yourself.

Mr. lets disable racials in arenas and have faction transfers. (It takes 2 seconds to look at someone’s post history). Are you that much of a hypocrite? (quote from your next post: “Letting everyone change specs at will just further homogenizes the game”) The hypocrisy here is some level of unreal.

Here is the difference between you and I. I made a one sentence post about a benefit towards dual spec for myself. I’m not here to throw my hat in the ring and start a thread about why I need dual spec. To me it would be a nice bonus. I’m completely fine without it.

If you want to have a conversation we can do that. If you wanna talk to me condescendingly you bet your behind I’m going to make you look stupid for doing it. Either have a philosophy about the game and stick with it and not change it when you decide it’s a benefit to you. Or keep sounding like the hypocrite you are. Choice is yours.

well, i hate to break it to you, but there’s plenty of things people didn’t do back in the day that people will do in 2021.

Were you not around for the world buff meta of classic wow? There were hundreds of warriors and rogues on my server literally getting warchiefs blessing via having an alt account mind control them in orgrimmar or crossroads. Everyone got buffs and then raid logged for DAYS at a time to keep them, and playing an alt or just not playing at all to preserve their precious little world buffs.

SOME people did this back in 2005, just not to even NEARLY the same extent.

Honestly what’s the issue with this? Like really, what is bad about that?
