Druid portals - why do I have to route through a capitol?

I admit, I have an inconvenient hearth; it’s my choice, it’s not all that relevant. What is relevant is why, if I (or any given Druid) want to get from anywhere to the Emerald Dream, I have to portal from the Dream through three, count them, three Azerothian capitol cities to get back to the Dream?

The Dreamway is part of the Dream itself, isn’t it? Dreamway > Dalaran > Stormwind/Orgrimmar > Valdrakken > ED. Please explain the in-world, meta, story, or development logic - ANY logic - behind this. Please.

As someone who does this on the regular (my hearth will always be the great seal just cause), yes, it is odd and updating dream walk so that you could access it by the emerald dreamway would be phenomenal. Just leave me the dal port cause I still need to get to valdrakken via org.

Edit: Dal hearth is lowkey just an extra hearth. Capital is less than a minute and a load screen away, and load screens are pretty quick these days with ssd drives.

Yeah it would be nice for druids to get an extra hearth straight into the dream

That is a really good point - Dreamwalk needs to continue to add new areas that make sense for druids. One of those areas is the Emerald Dream for sure.

Resources were not available to rebuild the dreamportal hub. I think in the future they will go with the time dragon hub. Or we could portal to caverns of time and from there we could go anywhere.

You just blew my mind. lol

No need. There’s an empty portal to nothing in there right now.

I doubt it’s empty, it’s not simple as changing a line in code. I know they should thought about that, but we also had Malfurion storyline taken out when it was the moment he was built to matter.

After 20 years the amount of “PLEASE DON’T TOUCH this code” or it will break stuff must be a nightmare.

In my opinion the bandaid fix would be giving druids the ability to teleport directly to the emerald dream. it’s fair and makes sense lorewise.

It goes nowhere. You walk through it and go nowhere.

Where did I say this?

You claimed the following:

And my response was that it doesn’t need rebuilt. Because there’s an empty portal to nowhere.

I never once claimed it’s one line of code. Though I highly doubt it’s that difficult or they wouldn’t continually add portals to places or change the ones in Valdrakken every season.

Emerald Dreamway has an unused portal which would be perfect for the Emerald Dream.

I think blizz sometimes overlooks cool little class touches they could put in the game.

Crap I hadn’t even thought about that! I guess I’m so used to using my Dalaran Hearth or the Dreamwalk to port anywhere on this character that I hadn’t even considered it! Good catch OP!

Ukr, no idea if you have a Druid alt and would know this first-hand, but the Bough Shadow portal, which would have been convenient for both Horde Druids in specific and to Hyjal in general, has never been enabled; nor have we ever got a blue post type of answer as to why. It’d be perfect to repurpose to access Amirdrassil, with very very little rebuilding needed.

This is very unlikely, almost impossible, and if it is, they need to run a build on someone’s local environment and debug it before it even gets to a test server. Code doesn’t work that way, they don’t just change a portal and break everything.

A modern company would never let “spaghetti code” get in the way of an update, its just nonsense.

I was actually pretty dissapointed when I thought I could get to and from the emerald dream with the dreamway but couldnt lol

That was EXCELLENT news. Doesn’t answer the question of why that never went to Bough Shadow, but I’ll live with it.

They’re in the dream so make that unused portal “Amirdrassil”. Don’t have to create assets or anything.
