everyone i know in game dislikes pathfinder and doesn’t want flying to be time-gated again.
i have asked people in trade chat what their opinion on the matter is and they have agreed that they don’t want pathfinder or to have flying removed again.
i haven’t heard a single person say “i like pathfinder and really enjoy no flying.”
do you enjoy no flying? do you think pathfinder is a fun system? if you do enjoy pathfinder and find no flying to be fun, please be specific and use concrete examples to explain why you feel this way.
I’m mostly indifferent. I just don’t think it’s a categorical negative to have zones without flying. When flying is a given, zone design philosophy changes to accommodate it; if they design a zone with the expectation that flying will come later, but that the bulk of initial player exploration will be on the ground, the zone design can reflect that. Does that mean it will end up being good or enjoyable? Not necessarily–but it also doesn’t mean that it’s doomed to be a terrible experience either. It depends entirely on how well Blizzard designs the zone. E.g. there are definite flaws with it, but Timeless Isle is generally looked upon favorably from what I’ve seen, and you can’t fly there at all.
I don’t think that’s quite framing the argument correctly. People’s impulse is to do the most efficient form of travel. That’s the instinct. Nature basically always chooses the path least resistant. It’s not merely because they want to just ride on a ground mount…clearly. IF that was the case, they’d just ride it. it’s having the most efficient form of travel become ground mounts.
I personally think some zones that have no flying is just fine. It’s a good balance. Besides, Ion did say these cars are “much, much faster”. So, it could be somewhat inconsequential compared to flying when it’s all said and done, and the cars can drift. It’s just a different form of travel that can offer variety. Just having flying doesn’t really offer much variety in travel options.
If it were genuinely as simple as you’re saying, zones like Timeless Isle wouldn’t be well-regarded. The lack of flight in a zone designed to be flown around is going to be frustrating, but the lack of flight in a zone designed to be navigable without flight, especially when alternative means of rapid transportation are provided, doesn’t have to be.
Ok that’s perfect and all but still give everyone the choice to fly if they want.
If the new cars are so amazing and efficient, then people will use them of their own free will
Ok so just give everyone the option to fly if they choose since so many people and such a large portion of the player base has explained they would prefer to fly.
And make no mistake, pathfinder was removed because of the overwhelmingly large amount of negative feedback regarding the time gating of flying - blizzard devs didn’t remove pathfinder because they wanted to remove it
This is what I was going to point out. Isle of QD, Throne of Thunder / Isle of Giants, Hrothgar’s Landing, even Firelands (outdoor world). All of these places had no flight in their secondary or thirdly released zones. That’s okay. As long as this area is designed with these new ground mounts in mind so that traversal isn’t annoying, it’s okay. Not to mention, I think this is the beginning of the ground mount redesign we heard about prior to this expansion ever launching.
You’re missing the point. So, really hard to debate somebody who can’t acknowledge that it’s more complicated than just giving flying and letting people use ground mounts. The TWW zones are totally not made for ground mounts at all.
The new expansion zones should always have flying right out of the gate, but these extra zones being ground mount only is a wise choice by Blizz.
Tbh, the way some of them act. I don’e really care how they feel, because they’re being indiffefent to people who prefer a ground mount structured enviroment.
Again, its very not mich as simple as “just use the ground mount in the flying zones”. As the zones are fundamentally structured differently with ground mounts in mind.
70% of the time i want flying zones. Also whether you even know it or not, time away from flying makes you like it more, and vice versa as well.
Not true in the slightest - no flying makes me want to not play the game because my time is being wasted using inefficient methods of travel for “blizzard reasons.”
