Dragonflight seems like a placeholder expansion

Seriously. I look at what it is and it seems like a nothing-burger. An expansion conceptually created by machine-learning AI. Zones cobbled together from existing concepts. A story that involves beating up evil cultists, beating up evil cultists, beating up evil cultists… and beating up evil cultists. Diet Catacylsm, now with 95% less Old Gods.

I’m sure it will still be fun to play from a game-play point of view, but it is literally the least inspired expansion concept I’ve ever seen. It’s almost like a social experiment, to see how many players will play the game if they make a fun-to-play expansion with no compelling narrative or lore and with nothing new/exciting to see.

Even as much as I knock Mists of Pandaria’s theme, at least the creators of that expansion tried something.

Time will tell. The copium-based take is that they want to start out low so they can go high, sort of like how Legion started off with many lower-fantasy concepts like Stormheim before Suramar, Broken Shore, and eventually Argus. They just went lower with DF than ever so the peak seems higher. That’s the copium talking at least.

I think it looks great and players have asked for more grounded storylines for multiple expansions now.

The argument can be made that any zone in the game looks like it was made by an AI cobbling together existing concepts.

Also, I don’t know how much of the actual plot you’ve seen on beta, or where you got your information from.

You do realize just how long people have been asking to see the ancestral home of the dragons alongside the Dragonflights themselves?

Not everyone wants to be Bob the Godslayer running around in a spaceship. WoW has needed a grounded, simpler primary plot thread for several expansions now. Whether you view that as an incapability of the writers to handle higher fantasy or simple fatigue, that’s the truth of it for a lot of players.

Bruh we had multiple expansions now of world ending threats and a war that killed a lot of people

Azeroth in general NEEDS a filler episode for once. Let this be the “beach day” episode.

I honestly don’t care about things like narrative. I don’t care about the story in any respect. I do, however, find myself very interested in the artwork and overall theme and aesthetic of things. The whole dragon concept is so played out and immature. It’s something an 8 year old little boy would choose to be the theme.

Imagine an entire expansion full of fantasy like ardenweald. Beautiful scenery and npc everywhere.

I like how people forget that the Fourth War, short as it was, basically crippled the Alliance and Horde. Both factions still reeling from it and OP is over here wanting another go at it or something, lol.

I mean, I guess. It really doesn’t take much, just give us fun classes, an okay world then cool raids/dungeons. Bonus for some attention to pvp so it remains playable.

Focusing on the fundamentals is what I think they SHOULD be doing. Not trying to reinvent the wheel whipping up some crazy new thing, or implementing a new chore.

Half a decade spent constantly demanding that the writing team be fired for slapping us in the face™ and now we’re reduced to complaining that they aren’t “trying something?” lol…

Right, that’s why people like dragons. Because we’re all just 8 year olds who can’t admit it?

What even?

This one thinks you have smoked too much skooma.

Wow you’re so cool and mature.

Oh man if we get some good bikini mogs in this expansion it’ll be an automatic 10/10

We’ll see what scares the Infinite Dragonflight that made them join the Old Gods. :crystal_ball:

edit: Just found out it’s not this concept.

I’m more interested in this lore than anything else they’ve put out in the past decade or more.

I mean my chest looks FANTASTIC in the Valdrakken civilian clothes you can unlock as a renown reward. Does that count? I dunno how they look on girls tho

It’s certainly a start!

Aren’t the infinite flight a result of the old gods?

I dunno. The basic plot I’ve heard so far - a faction of ancient dragons all about the elements instead of the titans - sounds bloody awesome! I am stoked that they’re doing more of a lateral move in terms of enemy power. It was feeling as though the threats were ever escalating, with each new baddie being even bigger and badder than the last. It was starting to feel like dragonball z. This is still dangerous, powerful enemies. But down on a much more manageable level. I think that’s great.

So basically instead of an 8 year old boy fantasy you want an 8 year old girl fantasy replacing dragons with fairies?

The problem with the expansion narrative is who the frick cares? It’s a non threat. What is the worst case scenario if the bad shamans let out the angry dragon and it runs amok? We already managed to beat a way bigger and meaner dragon aspect. We’ve literally stopped an alternate universe invasion. We’ve uprooted old god parasites and we’ve literally stopped reality being unmade.

This is like superman being relegated to a kindergarten school. On Tuesday supes will finally put an end to the evil bubble gum popper and if he really pushes himself, he’ll get Timmy to stop picking on Suzie and throwing pebbles at her during recess.
