This was datamined a week ago in the DF alpha. 90% sure this is what they plan to do.

The data-mine was about some attacks range increasing for ret only when using Crusader Aura and/or Divine Steed.

My post is saying that it would be nice to have Crusader Aura increase the range of the party/raid attacks/spells by 3 yards as a utility from ret-only to have a nice reason to bring a ret pally, but not mandatory.

I forgot about it being specifically for ret.

I personally would like retribution aura to be reworked a bit so it’s not only benefiting ret when someone dies. Maybe passive crit% or crit damage increase?

I’d rather they made a grp benefit to Crusader Aura for the grp/raid and place Ret Aura to be a PVP talent only… good for bg’s where lots die.

Crusader Aura augmentations for the party(any of these would be nice and thematic):
Jousting Expertise - 3 yard range increase for the party/raid on all abilities.
Sanctity Aura - 3% damage increase as holy for the party/raid.
Unexpected Inquisition - 3% haste increase for the party/raid
Ineffable Truth - 3% cooldown reduction for the party/raid

I don’t mean to be critical but hopefully its something more engaging than just a 3% increase to passive whatever thats a little boring, I’d be fine with those as secondary effects but they need to somehow interact with the gameplay.

Ret could maybe use a CD reduction talent or something, but I’d rather not be a melee firemage if I am being honest. 1 min spec felt good but would be a lot better if it was a 45 sec spec in the shadowlands iteration and make wings 90 second cooldown as an example.

Investing 4 talents into making Divine Steed a functional ability… yikes…

There were just enough points to grab all of the mandatory raid talents for prot, but not enough to get anything interesting.

It’s literally just Shadowlands, but less. I couldn’t even grab Divine Toll because of the 15% DR from AS in the bottom left of the prot tree lol. What a joke.

Thumbs up, this thread gets it. Why do we have so little utility? “In the class tree, Paladins will see your utility front-and-center”, not even close! More like “we took every ability you had and dumped them randomly into two talent trees, if you want them back enjoy this totally randomized talent tree spread”. Who wanted consecration back as ret? GROSS! Where is our utility? Any blessings? An Aura I haven’t changed for 99% of the xpac, so well done.

Finally Holy Power generated from Jugement back and rebuke back for Holy Pal. Finally.

I also really like the Idea of turnig consecration into the Venthyr cov ability

Divine Toll for Prot doesn’t feel special without the holy power generation and interrupt effect. It’s now just a temp shield, extra damage, and/or CDR depending on how you talent. Really confusing why you’d take a spell that was so beloved for its synergy with the overall spec play style and remove the synergy from it.

Talk for yourself I love the Light of Dawn combo with Becon of Virtue. Its like casting Word of Glory on 5 player for the cost of 3 HP

I mean, WHAT?!?! If this isn’t a tooltip bug you Blizz just destroyed the most iconic ability of Prot Pally. There is 0 excuse, reason, or logic. No, we want our silence and our holy power generation on Avengers Shield. Stop removing what is good about classes to “shake” things up?!? Regardless of what the smallest amount of people say, NO we don’t want this “shake up.” We want what was great about our classes in the past, NOT broken into 3 different talents, NOT locked behind 3 points to just obtain what we already have, and NOT gutting of ICONIC abilities that have multiple synergies that made the class enjoyable to play. Whoever you are listening to, you need to stop. What the players want is a healthy synergistic tree that has the best of every class and spec over the years so we can just focus on the content. People do not want a reinvention of the wheel. Merge the best parts of Legion Artifact weapon with Shadowlands S3 and turn that into a talent tree. Essentially if this isn’t a tooltip error, what you have done Blizz (to make an analogy) is remove Death Grip from DK’s and left them only with Death’s Caress.

I couldn’t agree with this more. The recent blue post over in the DF alpha forum is really really bad. They stripped the synergy out of AS to slap it into this mindless 15% DR talent that no one was asking for. Replacee this junk with something else and add AS generates Holy Power back to AS and bam you mostly fixed prot pally.

It feels like they are trying to untie our DPS/Survivability from Holy Power and lean it into AS which doesn’t make sense. Nerf/move Hand of the Protector if you see that as an issue but don’t strip prot pally of it’s identity.

I hope Holy Pal will get a version of Jugement of the pure from BFA where it heal players in X yd around the target

You do realize that this tree system is replacing both leveling and end builds?
The baseline avenger shield, the first version you get while leveling, doesn’t silence so why should the baseline version of it in DF magically get it? You get rank 2 at level 44 which makes it silence… its the exact same thing the only difference is the player has to pick it rather than it being passively given to you

While you are correct, you get alot more passive upgrades to baseline spec skills as you level with the current setup. having to pick all those up again with the new system, their arent enough points to get back to where we are now, so the abilities on paper look lackluster and clunky to play.
Hopefully people that are able to playtest this give good feedback (What i have seen on the Alpha threads they are giving feedback so let’s see what happens). It’s hard to see just how it will play without trying it ourselves thou.

As it is with the changes you will want to avoid specing the AS talents which is a bit sad.

Whoever is designing these trees needs to make it a golden rule not to put things players want behind things they don’t want.
