God, the BC story was awful.
The Illidari were antiheroes protecting Azeroth at their worst, why the hell did they just decide to go full evil.
On the flipside, WotLK had great story but a majority of the gameplay was boring except for Ulduar and ICC.
5/10. Beats SL, WoD and Cata.
Just my opinion. Everyone is more than welcome to disagree, agree, or ignore as they see fit.
Even that’s debatable when looking back, honestly. Arthas’s “I’ll let you get away this time, but next time for sure!” through the whole leveling experience was pure 80’s cartoon villain routine. And then the whole letting the Argent Tournament camp out on his front lawn, letting a whole raid of adventurers stomp their way through all of his armies, just so he could kill us himself and raise us as a new army (?) - but too bad he didn’t account for Tirion and his literal deus ex machina, here to save the day.
I’ll never get why people idolize Arthas. His WCIII story was a pretty flawless descent of a hero, but the Wrath stuff was pretty turgid by comparison and the folks who were all up in arms about his end in Shadowlands, as though they expected him to have some meaningful character involvement or progression after that… I don’t even know what to say about them.
This is the best that can be reasonably said about it. Anyone rating it above a 6 is lying to themselves.
Absolutely this, we have had two abyssmal xpacs. Still its nice to see a complete 180 and a return to form… is it perfect no, does it deserve the title of best xpac… hard to say, I am much MUCH less invested in wow after the two duds but I am still here /shrug.
They at least worked that into the plot in the end. It was a campy villain that whole time, but this is straight D&D campaign level of storytelling.
But when Arthas 1 shots us and goes “thanks for bringing me the very best warriors of Azeroth, Tirion” I was like “damn he played us this whole time. Go arthas” He played us the entire time letting us do everything so he could have better DKs in the end.
It sounds more like a child really. “Oh yeah it was my plan all along to have you kill every single significant person in my forces in order to make you stronger” sounds like what an 8 year old would say when you beat him in a game of Warcraft 3. WotLK’s story had a couple good moments but was overall pretty bad.
I mean that was a stupid plan even before Tirion walked all over it.
“I will let these adventurers kill off my army so that I can resurrect them into… a replacement army!”
Seeing as he literally 1 shots us when he starts getting annoyed. I don’t think he ever really felt threatened by us. Blizzard even made clear the blight bombs and us toying with his heart massively hurt him.
For every guy of his we kill he can just bring back. We see with with Anub and the San’lane. For everyone one of our people that got killed he got a new soldier. Hello Saurfang He pretty much played us the entire time. The Tirion BS a the end was the only wild card that screwed his plan up.
IMO best expansion since MoP - it’s really fun, I actually want to do the dailies and earn rep with the different factions, pvp gearing is fast and fun so I can actually get into pvp on my main and my alts! It’s looking great so far and I am really happy with it. Definitely has some bugs that need working out, but hey can’t be perfect haha
If SSR queue was down to 5 min for dps and/or they fixed the healer rating gains/losses, I’d be having a blast with pvp. Alas, those two things still haven’t been fixed even though blizzard spoke about them months ago.
Yeah i really like that its so Alt friendly. The ease of gearing Alts is going to keep me playing longer than I normally would stick with some other Xpacs.
I read WOW has the largest dev team in a very long time. we got a new UI, most things are in a good place. We are wise to appreciate it while its here imo!
Dragonflight is dogwater.
With some turds mixed in.
Opinion time, I love dragonflight – it’s shaping up to be top 5 easily.
However, I hated BC and loved WoD so I’m aware my tastes are different to the masses.
Shadowlands had it’s moments but ultimately it felt unfinished or rather unexplored to it’s potential.
BFA I thoroughly enjoyed and never understood the complaints.
Legion is the gold standard … what BC could have been but wasn’t.
Vanilla was mostly craptastic and I only enjoyed it because a MMO was new to me at the time.
Wrath, I have very fond memories of but i’m not getting back into ulduar or ICC.
Cataclysm revitalized the world in a way I hope they would try again.
MoP. such as legion is a gold standard - from that point on, I stopped taking extensive breaks from the game because it started to be more and more what I like.
To resume quickly from best to worst imo and so far from what we have seen of DF :
Legion - BFA - WoD - MoP - Wrath - DF - SL - Cataclysm - Vanilla - BC
Hopefully buffs for other classes get them to the disgustingly busted point that corny arms warrior players get to have every xpac.
M Halondrus was fun. Especially for melee. Anduin on the other hand…
It’s way too early in the expansion to be calling it amazing just yet.
It’s certainly up there for one of the better first seasons though.
I puked reading that.
