Dragonflight Alpha Thread

I think they meant “lore wise”, which has so far been confirmed that all the Dracthyr are from the black dragonflight by Mister Nefarious- I mean, Neltharion and were experiments to be guards or whatever.

That said, there’s zero reason you couldn’t RP as something that isn’t a Dracthyr since there is just… all different kinds of Draconics. That and the world is a sandbox so who cares in the end. And for all we know, they could have used different types of dragon blood which would explain the scales.

Won’t know till later, really.

Is it okay to play a Dracthyr as an Elf alchemist masquerading as a draconic for… reasons…

clearly the chadliest form of Dracthyr RP is just pretending to be a weird saurok

I legit didn’t realize this was their lore.

So Blizzard’s going all in on the “Redemption Arcs for EVERYBODY!” by making Deathwing’s heinous experiments on fellow Dragons a-okay in the end because “Look, the players can be one! They can’t be that bad!”

Did he commit heinous experiments before he was Deathwing? I mean he clearly was doing experiments, but do we know if he was already doing said horrible things before being corrupted?

Seeing as the Dracthyr likely hatched from eggs like the rest of dragon kind, perhaps it was more akin to growing a test tube creation. (Still not great, but hey this is Warcraft.)

“On the one hand, I’m an aberration created by one of the world’s worst villains – perhaps destined to never be truly accepted by mortals or dragons… on the other hand: skethyl berry donuts in Dalaran.”

I mean they soft-balled Sylvanas’ horrendous warcrimes form some half-assed redemption story. This shouldn’t be suprirsing.

Rewatching the video where dracthyr are announced, they say because they’re a creation they can use all the magic of the aspects, and then also say “prismatic effect” when talking about their spells.

i guess I’m wrong in outright saying they’re chromatic flight, but like - is that not what they are. it explains the colors they can be

i feel like I sound like I’m knocking them but I’m not, the chromatics I like

ngl the dracthyr being proto-chromatics and all the experiments neltharion and later nefarian being attempts to recreate the perfect conditions of the dragon isles 10,000+ years ago is pretty neat

incidentally, the dracthyr do have chromatic skins, which is fun

We have the major dragon colors that have cool aspects…being life, time, magic, etc but I wonder if there are some ugly or off-color dragons that are like the aspects of ridiculous things?

Goldenrod Dragons = Aspect of Corn
Sepia Dragons = Aspect of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Fuchsia Dragons = Aspect of Horrible Music
Almond Dragons = Aspect of Infected Wounds
Unmellow Yellow = Aspect of Pee.

In all seriousness, the fact that the Drac’thyr are actively chromatic makes me wonder if something unique was involved in their creation that simply wasn’t possible for the Chromatic Flight.

The other Aspects might have been involved, and this prior union of their powers might have been why they were so ready to accept the Dragon Soul’s existence when Neltharion first unveiled it to them.

It might also be that the Drac’thyr are naturally highly resistant to the Old God corruption, and researching this opened up Neltharion to the corruption by accident that would eventually turn one of the most noble and caring individuals in Azeroth’s history into a deranged mockery we came to know as Deathwing, and that’s why the Chromatic Flight kept failing for so long.

Without the blessing of all the Aspects, the Chromatic Flight was inherently unstable and potentially had to be made this way so the Old Gods could control them, as the first iteration, the Chromatic Dragon-kin that would become the Drac’thyr and other ‘soldiers’ of the Flights, required significant effort to infest and corrupt even a basic foot-soldier. Without access to the Titan Facilities of the Dragon Isles and the blessings of the other Aspects, re-creating these miracle troops was an agonisingly slow process with a staggering high failure and absurdly high mortality rate.

The dracthyr were made by Neltharion, the chromatics were made by Nefarian.

The chromatics also had actual dragons in them, while the dracthyr are a dragon-adjacent race like drakonids.

Presumably Nefarian found daddy’s old research notes and made his own version.

I didn’t know making bad jokes was akin to brain trauma.

Cosmetic spells are dropping! This is a W for roleplayers!

There is gonna be some Dragonball RP Shenanigans going on with this, although I do wish some of the more permanent effects were available.

Being set on fire, dusted with Faerie Fire, having an illusory icicle lance sticking out of your torso, constantly dripping wet from Resto Shaman healing spells, etc etc, would be fun as well.

hey now, a bad joke killed my pappy ill have you know! wielding a bad joke within a mile radius of a trauma center can be considered a terror-act in itself! Its why we cant have bad jokes in a crowd, it becomes a laugh riot!

Oh, hot dog. I kinda miss that silly illusion spell mages had, still thought it was weird it only lasted like 2-5 minutes like come on I want to look like a random goober I targeted and nail some dungeons.
