Dragon Riding vs regular flying

100% :+1:

Have you got your 48 glyphs?

Me too, I look forward to regular flying

Unless you want to hover
Or if you want to travel a short distance. Dragon riding shoots you ahead a pretty significant distance so you can’t just mount up and fly 10 feet you have to fly 20 yards

Dragon riding looks like gimmicky cr@p to me. It should have been optional. Idc if someone zips by me while I’m dinking around in flight form. It’s never bothered me by what other people are doing because if I want to, I’ll get there eventually.

It was from an interview with Ion. I want to say it was with MrGM but cant recall exactly.

I’m definitely not pre-ordering this expac, and don’t intend to order until I hear from other players that it’s actually worth the money they’re charging for it. Those other players being people I know and have played with. I just don’t trust ActiBlizz to not try to pull a fast one again.

Semper Fi! :us: :ukraine:

I’ll just wait for regular flying. I don’t want to play a mini game while traveling. I got beta recently so I’ll give it a try, but from how it’s been described I’m 99.9999% sure I’ll hate it.

It’s two buttons, only one that you’ll actually use, with talents earned fully within 20 minutes to an hour, depending on how quickly you want to nab the dragon glyphs.

You don’t even need to see your UI at all once it’s maxed out.

I swooped down on my Proto-drake into a fight and had to land and dismount before engaging. With the regular mount, you drop on him and start fighting and automatically dismount. Just another clunky issue.

Huh? You can auto dismount with the dragons…I do it all the time from midair. What are you talking about? Just drag your opener/whatever ability you want onto the bar when it’s in dragonriding mode or press it from literally any other bar. I can Fel rush/throw glaive/immo aura/leap ect, all while on the dragon. It’s literally the same as regular flying mounts and auto dismount.

Have you actually played the beta and experimented with the Dragonriding system? Have you unlocked and maxed out all the abilities?

No?

Then stop whining. You’re just yet another complainer talking about something you haven’t even tried yet.

I like to tab out every now and then as well, but Blizz should absolutely NEVER cater the game to people who like to AFK or multitask. Ideally, the game should be engaging enough to hold peoples’ attention and make them want to actively play vs. hover in mid-air for an hour while they watch a show on Netflix or check their socials.

Dragonriding seems like an attempt to create a mount system that is more engaging and interactive with the environment vs. something that you do while completely spaced out. And that’s a good thing imo. If you don’t find it fun, then by all means, find a safe spot and AFK to your heart’s content. Or better yet, just log out. A game is meant to be played, and if you’re not finding it fun enough to want to actually engage with it, then why are you even here?

Clip from gw2 gryphon, if this is where we end up or close to, I will never look back to legacy flying:

I absolutely love this system in gw2

I agree in principle. If I had my way, the world would be a hellish dangerous nightmare. Flying from point A to point B would be filled with danger to both incentivize players to engage with the world and reward them over time with seeing their efforts actually pay off. Like imagine if we did the ZM campaign and the dune mobs all lost their elite tags and became regular enemies because the covenants worked together to tackle that area and while it’s a constant battle for control, the big bad elites got taken down and it’s just a struggle with the endless riff raff or imagine if we can get covenant bodyguards to help us in that area. Like a Kyrian or Night Fae who can shield us from the mawsworn who can shoot us down or you can enlist the help of a Necrolord bodyguard to tank for you or a Venthyr to help you kill things. Point being is the more you play the game and do things, the world changes and becomes a bit safer/more accommodating to you.

I don’t see DF as anything more than a first pass at revamping flying. I like it but it will absolutely get tedious weeks to months in when the newness wears off and we’re all down to just doing basic world content for rep or whatever. Fun, for most people, is actually doing the quest and not so much the travel from point A to point B.
