Dragon Riding vs regular flying

I mean I’m weird, I literally log on for hours to do this every day. It’s my new “run around (insert main city hub here) in a circle while talking to guildies/being bored”.

If they were so confident in it being good they would have regular flying unlocked with it, the fact they don’t is telling. I just wonder how long it is before there’s a larger amount of general outrage with it, because I can already see it - and how long it’ll be until the Blizzard ‘big fans’ of it give up on defending it so hard.

There is like a 99.99% chance that regular flying will come with or shortly after the 1st major content patch along with whatever new zone will come with it just like WoD, Legion, BfA, and SL all did and there is a 99.98% chance that the new area introduced won’t have regular flying until after the next major content patch or an additional pathfinder style achievement meant to take 2-3 months after.

All you whiny crybabies honestly should just wait until a few months after the last content patch of any given expansion to play. All of the catchup mechanics will be in place, all of the nerfs to the content would have happened, you can just plow through it all as easy as it could be and then going back to whatever it is you do otherwise.

Probably because they don’t want to have to deal with all the regular fliers complaining that all these dragon riders are zipping past them stealing their nodes/lootables/killing rares faster than them. Or the fact that this is the best compromise in regards to flying they’ve ever had.

I don’t think people fully understand how slow/terrible regular flying is going to feel to them after this. I cannot STAND it. None of my guildies like even logging into live right now because of regular flight. In comparison, regular flight feels like you are walking vs dragonriding.

There was a big stink about it in here months back. I know because I was causing about 90% of it, lol.
Wowhead made it sound like there would be no normal flight in something they had on their website. It was quickly reworded so thats one of the things that made us feel they were going to add normal flight in at some point.

BUT…
This IS Ion we are talking about…so who knows. I mean, he’s the guy who seemed to think they could just remove flight entirely in WoD and no one would notice or care…lmao

My wife told me I need more exercise.
Hey…i get exercise. I do two laps around Orgrimmar every day :joy: :joy:

Best 15 dollar a month chat room activity ever.

You basically said what I was going to say. There was a short learning curve for me to get it down but dragon riding is pretty awesome imo, far and away better than regular flying .

And I’m new to the beta only got in this past weekend. And before someone thinks I’ve played alot since then …hardly just barely crossed over 6 hrs in beta over three days .

aka Soon tm

last expansion patch and u guys know it lol

Regular flying is still the superior mode of travel simply because you have full control of it including the ultra powerful and convenient stop and hover while you go afk, collect your bearings, etc.

Yes, DF is absolutely way faster going from point A to B but at the cost of ALWAYS having to be active and engaged in that process and THAT will get tedious eventually especially considering many people, myself included, use flights as a way to do something else for a bit which is impossible with DF.

Quite frankly, the game isn’t near interesting enough to warrant or justify my total engagement with it. I love the ease of hitting space bar and auto run while aimed at my general direction and then alt tabbing to read or watch something until I hear sounds indicating I reached the area. I’ll take vendor flights and use that time to go to the bathroom and/or get more water or something.

Dragonriding has been a breeze, especially as you start leveling it up. And the fact that it has such a high speed % increase? I’m very happy with the system at this point. I do hope they bring regular flying into the area (as well as dragonriding everywhere else) since I do like having the “Press Num Lock and walk away from the computer” moments.

They spent a lot of time I suppose building this needless mount system when regular flying would suffice. So instead of making this an optionable experience for players (since player autonomy in MMORPG outweighs dev egos in my book) they chose to integrate this unsustainable system because Guild Wars has mounts with vigor but they failed to comprehend while copycatting other games that Guild Wars their only means to Glide is the only option. WoW gives you unbound flying and is more user-friendly than stupid grinding to unlock full sustainable gliding in the game. It’s dumb development. It’s even dumber considering Druids can shapeshift into flying creatures and still are penalized for their class identity.

This entire theme park game design is crap.

I’m not holding my breath. I expect Ion to pull the same stunt again trying to kill flying and for the backlash to smack Blizzard.

It doesn’t even need to be a compromise, and literally ALL the complaints about why flying has to be x or y or there needs to be mobs in the sky to knock you off are all ignored for dragonriding lol.

Ez, increase regular flying speed to the speeds of dragonriding. Problem solved, lol?

I see this getting tossed around quite a bit. There are a few things in area’s that have flying denial/can knock you off your mount, so, definitely not ignored. Hell in PvP you can straight up dismount other players while flying. Anyway, I’ve come across multiple area’s that have either turrets on the ground that if you stay in range for too long, knock you off, or hostile dragons that will dismount you if you get too close.

The only disappointment for me personally with dragon riding is you can’t hover like normal flying. That seems like an easy fix blizzard could add with time so I hope they do.

Besides that dragon riding far superior to normal flying.

It’s not hard to get the hang of dragon riding it has a small learning curve of a few minutes. But once you get the hang of it it’s pretty sweet.

Side bonus you only unlock it once then your other characters have it once they get to the isles.

Seems more of a gimmick to me. This is the first exp I haven’t pre-ordered, so maybe by the time I get it, regular flying will be in.

Stop being overdramatic people. We will get regular flying just like we do every expansion at a later time.

I’m not even worried about those Dragon Riding, while I hang out in my low rider cruising along. I am only zooming to the end in Beta. Think my Main will end up being my monk. I do like my pally though.

Transportation wise, Dragonriding is far superior to regular flight. It is easy to catch on to how to do. It takes less than an hour to unlock all its talents.
