You can just download Windows 10 for free off of Microsoft’s official site. The only thing you will be restricted is customizing your wallpaper and that annoying watermark pretty much.

But in exchange, depending on your hardware and distro, a system update might decide to eat your wifi or Nvidia drivers. This happened to me on a couple machines in the past, was really annoying because they weren’t hardwired and so I had to tether from my phone to get Broadcom wifi drivers reinstalled, and the proprietary Nvidia drivers are just grouchy sometimes.

Though this is avoidable if you select your components to be Linux friendly, which generally means Intel wifi/ethernet and either Intel iGPU or AMD discrete GPU. Also helps to not run a rolling release distro.

There’s always a group of stragglers it seems… remember there being significant upset back when XP got dropped, long after most people had moved onto Vista, 7, or even 8

I never had an issue to where an update borked my machine. I’ve been on Manjaro for as long as I can remember. And I run AMD so I don’t have to worry about the Nvidia stuff.

Yea, I have really never had that happen and I use Arch BTW lol…nivida is not bad now although it could be better…

Only thing was the Grub snafu couple weeks ago but as for as what he described never
