GOG has a Warcraft 1 available too.
If they were on 98SE they could run the original release of WoW.
I forgot that. Yea that is true. Still kinda odd how Blizzard didnt want to do that so they relied on 3rd partys to do it for them. Still a much better option than running on an entirely different OS. You can have two operating systems on the same computer though. I used to have that setup a long time ago.
The GoG version is just DOSBox and a built in no-CD crack IIRC.
Yep, Itâs DOSBox. Thatâs what GOG uses for a lot of old games.
Also if the change is true and intended, it currently says;
Minimum Requirements
Operating System
WindowsÂź 7 64-bit
So they had clearly planned for DF to work on Windows 7.
Thatâs not normal, Iâve never had pop ups for anything.
Or they could have forgotten to change it, itâs highly likely thatâs not actually tested because that would require paying MS quite a bit of money for support. Iâm guessing thatâs the actual case because committing to supporting a dead OS is a risk most companies wonât take. Particularly since driver support isnât there anymore.
Also note that the GPU requirements are now firm on DX12. While they did hack in DX12 support for win 7 MS wonât continue to support that now that itâs not a supported OS.
Youâre like a pop up, you just keep coming back. I thought you muted the thread?
I mean, youâre right, butâŠ
This is Windows 10 weâre talking, not Windows 11.
FWIW Windows 11 based on the research Iâve done now out preforms 10 on capable hardware.
I donât doubt it and I might end up upgrading sooner or later, but I more meant in the context of them saying âwait a bit before upgrading.â
Like, yeah, thatâs correct, but Windows 10 has been around for an eternity by this point. Youâd expect folks still running the absolute dinosaur that is Windows 7 to have upgraded several years ago by this point.
It doesnât âpop upâ. Itâs part of the Setup wizard that runs every major update.
Those are now yearly, they used to bi-yearly.
A setup wizard is not a pop-up ad. Youâre literally in the midst of configuring your newly updated system.
I donât have âHot deals!â installed on Windows.
lol I literally waited till the week that support died for 7 to get something with another OS.
Did the same thing with XP, kind of, I do believe it was past the support shut off date for that one if memory serves.
MS has had some great versions and some serious stinkers, so when you find one you really like its hard letting go to get something new that you see so many complaints about online.
Ohh this reminds me gotta check to see if beta will run on WINE
but its free
That article is disingenuous. It refers to them as âadsâ but really it just walks you through the steps to disable all pop-ups and reminders on your browser or system settings, even beneficial ones. It labels them âadsâ but it doesnât sound like youâre getting ad pop-ups while youâre browsing the web, it sounds like youâre getting genuine advertisements (and not just system reminders) in the toolbar panes for Windows itself.
That shouldnât be happening. Thatâs malware.
If I pop up my left and right hover-over areas in Windows 10, it gives me stuff like news stories, weather, interesting factoids, whatever. NEVER ads. Ads offering you âhot dealsâ in those areas means the computer has picked up adware somewhere.
If youâre worried about Win10 not feeling like Win7, go here https://ninite.com/ and install the Classic Start option. Makes it feel like youâre using Win7 again. I couldnât stand how Win10 looked so I did that.
âNew critical security updates are available!â
Yelena probably : âOMG GET THAT AD AWAY FROM MEâ.
Itâs insane people would think notifications, which you can fully customize to get notified about things you want to be notified, are ads. Yeah, my GM pinging in the discord is totally a pop-up ad because I got discord notifications setup.
Itâs also worth a mention that the page that linked article was on has six different kinds of ads on it that could be looking to embed ad code also. Two are just Google Analytics whichâŠyeah. They want to know everything you do everywhere. But the rest, each one could be legit, or it could contain an adware payload ALSO. Even WoWHead has had problems with bad ads trying to load malicious code in the past.
