No, that has not been the case until very recently (BFA). Your starter-zones firmly plant you as a member of your race’s faction. You aren’t a Human from Lordaeron; you’re a human of Stormwind, trained in Northshire Abbey specifically. Again, even the name “Draenei” refers to a culture, NOT a “race”.
This is a fundamental shift in the game.
I’m not saying either approach is inherently right or wrong, but they are very different. And WoW spent the majority of its lifespan as a game in which each Race is deeply connected to its culture, and the Classes available are an extension of that culture. Clearly people LIKE Night Elves’ culture being distinct (if a bit hard to quantify, other than “generally likes nature”), or Orcs being noble savages, things like that.
Making everyone into everything just sends the message “none of the races are actually distinct, none of that lore actually matters anymore”.
All that makes them “draenei” was that they chose to follow Velen in stead of the other two guys. That’s it. Got nothing to actually do with the light.
however draenei, the people who follow velen and by their biology are still the same people that have ptsd for all fel, there should not be adult draenei born on azeroth, so they cannot be warlocks by lore, because the trauma.
the elements in other hand, when their brothers and sisters got sick because of the residual fel magic after the orcs got corrupted, devolved into the broken ones and the ones who got the worst into the lost ones. the elements got to their aid because the light abandoned them, many draenei feel sorry for them and embraced the elements with them.
now warlocks are now possible because of the manari eredar that will be purified by the light in the velen quest line, since they were corrupted and not mutated i assume they can be saved, they still use the fel magic without abuse because they know that being a warlock is about being good with the paperwork, demons are bad with it.
that being said when i turn red i gonna go and corrupt the sunwell.
Updating the game such that Draenei would be called Eredar from there on out would require a big story moment where Velen confirms that his people are both whole and home.
Those really should be an option.
Only really need a male DPS form and a female tank form. The other two already exist if they wanted to use them. Although, I’d still like to see demon forms have customization and maybe a talent or new spec that focuses around staying in that form.
the restrictions became arbitrary the moment they took out class abilities that only specific races like fear ward for dwarfs. once every class became the same regardless of race there was no longer anything stoping this from happening. couple more years at the most since pallys druids and shammy require the most work but every class will be on every race except evoker since its brand new. but i hope that eventually in the future comes to other races to because the transmog options on the lizzardbois look so awful
they in some way start piecing it all together from my perspective anyways while you’re out doing the demon form quests.
whenever I am trying to figure out a race/class combo that don’t really make sense. I just think someone learned it from someone else in this vast mmo world and taught it along the way. sure it might not be in the games lore itself, but its not going to break the game for me. I try and give the game some life myself as I’m going about my adventures. I didnt always do this, but it has made the game more fun to me.
as many have stated the lore has been busted for such a long time now. you can see it as you play through classic.
i guess people will always find a reason to complain in WoW. I for one am having loads of fun zoomin around on my dragon.
And they literally introduced a Lightforged Draenei who explains his reasoning for abandoning the light and deciding the explore the Fel and Shadows.
And you knew this when you made the thread, as the quest was active at the start of the PTR when we first learned Warlocks were being unlocked for all.
They actively explained Lightforged Warlocks and you just don’t like the explanation, even though it makes sense, and they didn’t even owe you an explanation, as logic dictates at least a few Draenei/Lightforged would explore the Fel eventually.
This is like saying you truly believe out of the Billions of people on earth, because you think X thing is bad or because there’s laws against it, that you don’t believe a single person out of the billions of people will have ever tried doing it.
Every class isn’t the same, neither in the sense of every individual of a certain class being a practitioner of the same arts nor in the sense that literally every class is the same, just to cover the two initial interpretations I got from what you wrote.
The like of Alliance and Horde paladins are functionally the same because the game needs to work and blizzard isn’t yet willing to facilitate class skins, hence Sunwalkers (and Blood Knights of old) and Knights of the Silver Hand aren’t really differentiated despite coming from two vastly different cultures and effectively worshipping two different things.
They do if they want people to not complain about the story and castigate it as literary refuse to all who would hear.
This follows for Draenei, given they’ve taken repentant Man’ari back into the fold, but the Lightforged are effectively a religious sect of heavy-handed Light-swingers. There aren’t billions of Lightforged gadding about, either, as far as I’m aware, so the likelihood of the “race” of Christian Pastors practicing and preaching Satanism is even lower.
But this could easily be fixed. With class skins.
Make their demons Lightforged. Make their spells appear holy. There, done, an easy clap. But they won’t, of course, because they don’t care, just as I won’t stop bringing it up because I do.
as the lore means nothing to blizzard as they change it as needed all that matters is based on in game so yes every class is the exact same cookie cutter class compared to when races had some specific abilities with pallys on the horde being the most different. once they removed those skills this was always the inevitable outcome. because were so close to druids getting every race unlocked also ive saved and name and decided rather than leveling a 10th druid ill just wait for this to happen and level 1 on the server im playing atm and use my old druid till then. me specifically i couldnt care less about the lore when it comes to this. blizzard could just be super lazy and say this happen because of reasons… and nothing more and i would be fine with it as it allows me to play the class i want on the race i want which to me is far more important than the lore reasons when blizzard will just change them at some point anyway for whatever reason
